About

"This place...is in between the living and the dead world. I exist to connect the two while maintaining balance."

✦✦✦

Yuri is the manager and sole humanoid worker of the ghost office. Their purpose is to oversee and maintain balance between the living and dead worlds. Their job is the only thing Yuri knows and thus, they take it very seriously. While they may look and act human on the surface, Yuri is very much not human. They only take this form so new customers can feel at ease and see a familiar face.

The ghost office place is where the dead can recieve letters and even packages from their living loved ones. They work alongside a herd of deer as deer are considered messengers of God. The deers' job is to implant the idea to write to a dead friend/relative/etc. into the minds of the living and then deliver the letters to the ghosts by dropping them off at the ghost office. Yuri exists to guide the ghosts in the afterlife after they have been summoned by their mail. The one rule of the ghost office that all ghosts must follow is that they can never send anything in response as this would inform the living world about the afterlife. Those in the living world being able to unknowingly communicate with those who have already passed and never knowing what happens after death is what makes this world "balanced".

Although Yuri has been helping deliever messages to those who have already passed from those they left behind for a very long time, they still can't quite wrap their head around what it means to be human. To put it bluntly, Yuri lacks empathy. They don't understand why ghosts react the way they do when they recieve mail and they especially don't understand why the living write what they write. They understand that it is part of the job to implant the idea to write to their loved ones into the minds of the living but don't understand why it's so important. While they may not understand the reasons behind their purpose, they don't question it and is content to just "fulfill their purpose".

Traits

Diligent

One of Yuri's earliest memories is opening their eyes to an empty post office and just knowing what needed to be done. From that day on, they have decided to dedicate all of their energy to fulfilling their duties.

Naïve

Yuri's knowledge of the intricacies of human life are limited. They enjoy reading books left behind by ghosts but cannot understand them very well.

Blunt

Everything tends to be black or white for Yuri. Their limited understanding of the nuances of human life have made them rather direct in conversation.

Adaptable

Despite seeming very strict about doing their job properly, Yuri is very open to learning new things.

Doing their job

Despite not having any contact with their creators, Yuri truly believes in what they do.

Sweets and snacks

Even though Yuri does not need to eat, they indulge in a sweet treat or snack every once in a while. It might be the only time they show some semblence of emotion.

Skills

Memory

Yuri remembers everything and everyone they have ever met. If they claim they don't remember, they are lying.

Ghost Summoning

While it is usually necessary for a ghost to have mail to be summoned, in some cases, Yuri is able to summon them by their own will alone.

Animal Whisperer

Truthfully, Yuri only sees one kind of animal–and special animals at that, but Yuri always seems to understand the deer. Many of the ghosts who find themselves at the ghost office have noted that only Yuri can truly understand them.

Trivia

They don't need to eat or sleep but they enjoy doing it. When they aren't busy with ghost office obligations they will enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet.

Their name means "the light of God".

Noa Noa showed up one day at the ghost office. He has no idea where he is or why he's there which leads to Noa sticking closely to Yuri. His prescence confuses Yuri at first as Noa doesn't act like the ghosts who usually visit the ghost office. Noa brings a fresh new outlook to the ghost office and begins to widen Yuri's world.

Various Deer Yuri may be the only humanoid worker at the ghost office but they are not alone. Yuri finds the deers' presence normal...but enjoyable. They like to feed them crackers in their free time.
