Signature
A quiet and unassuming university student who hides a secret eccentricity behind their all-work mentality. He takes things very seriously and is more straightforward than most people would expect, causing them to come off to some as rude. They help Yuki out with making the troupes' costumes and accessories, as well as writing songs for the company. They become acquainted with the Mankai Company after coming to one of their shows at the behest of their classmate, Kazunari.
Taciturn and quiet, Ai has an authoritative aura about them. His trendy fashion sense often draws peoples' eyes his way, but he actually hates having any sort of attention on him. He often dyes his hair, coordinating his outfit in order to match; as of the story, it is a mixture of maroon, pink, and white.
Underneath their icy interior, Ai has a very bizarre personality. They often talk about being an alien from another planet, and none of their stories are ever confirmed nor refuted.
They study at Veludo Arts University, initially as an Art History major; eventually, with the reigniting of their passion for music, they change majors during the time between Acts 4 and 5. Ai is revealed to run FUWA β CHUU, a famous independent online store selling various accessories. They also start up a music cover channel in Year 3, called ζβ‘YEU ("Ai Love YΓͺu").
As a child, Ai was the opposite of their current self; energetic, cheerful, and friendly. Revealed to have actually been an elementary schoolmate of Kazunari's, Ai eventually moved to Vietnam following the divorce of their parents. This caused them to withdraw into their shell, opting not to talk to the people around them, and deigning not to forge any meaningful friendships. Despite their lacklustre performance in school, Ai eventually graduated from a private school in Saigon, moving back to Japan to study at Veludo Arts University. This decision was two-fold, as Ai had gotten news that their father had died, leaving their only biological sibling, Katsuhito, alone. Because Katsuhito was a minor at the time, Ai quickly moved in with him to prevent him from having to enter the foster care system.
While pursuing their post-secondary education, Ai became re-acquainted with Kazunari, who they failed to recognize as their childhood friend. They attempted to keep him at a distance, but his enthusiastic fervour eventually got to them, and the two started talking more.
At some point, the two of them collaborated on a school assignment together, at which point Ai was introduced to the various faces at the Mankai Company. After being invited to watch the Summer Troupe's production of The Great Sardine Search, Ai finds their love in the arts reawakening. As a result, he switches his major to Music Production. They also begin volunteering at Mankai, helping Yuki with costume design, as well as with writing and composing songs for the troupes' productions.
Kazunari Miyoshi
Kazunari and Ai used to be friends in elementary school. After Ai's parents split, however, he moved to Vietnam with his mother, cutting off contact with his schoolmates and eventually becoming more closed-off. After arriving at Veludo Arts University, the two reunite, though they do not recognize one another as each other's long-lost childhood friend. Nonetheless, the two have an amicable relationship, with Kazunari helping Ai with their studies, and Ai providing aid with any projects or troupe tasks which need to be done, such as costume design or photographhy for production posters. It is also confirmed that Ai has a bit of a crush on Kazunari, something that their younger brother teases them to no ends about. It's never stated if this is requited, however.
Katsuhito Inoue
Katsuhito and Ai are estranged siblings who reunited sometime before or during Year 1. When their father died, Ai stepped up and became Katsuhito's legal guardian in order to prevent him from entering the foster care system. The two of them get along very well, despite having just met, and Katsuhito is shown to deeply admire Ai. In turn, Ai often dotes on him, calling him a good brother. Funnily enough, Ai is one of the only people that Katsuhito will be polite towards, and when Ai is not present, Katsuhito often reverts to his chaotic self.
Yuki Rurikawa
Yuki and Ai are like-minded, and so they struck up a friendship right off the bat. Due to their mutual talent in fashion, Ai often helps Yuki out with costume design for the troupes' productions, even lending a hand with makeup and hair (though Ai is self-admittedly not particular talented in those fields). Ai sees Yuki as a cute younger sibling, and often play along when Yuki makes quips towards other members of the Mankai Company.
Misumi Ikaruga
Both Ai and Misumi get along very well, a connection that, when paired together with their tales of being an alien, lead some of the Mankai actors to dub them as having come from the same planet. The two seem to be able to communicate on near-telepathic levels, much to the confusion of everyone around them.
Tenma Sumeragi
Due to his upbringing, Tenma ends up on the receiving end of Ai's constant stories about being an alien from another planet, as well as their descriptions of "commoner items." He often believes their tales, and is not amused when others point out his gullibility.
Chikage Utsuki
Ai is often able to tell whether or not Chikage is lying, much to the latter's surprise. When asked about this, Ai often replies that it is due to their intuition as an otherworldly being. Because they share a habit for weaving tall tales which cannot be told apart from truth or fiction, the two sometimes prank the other Mankai Company members by crafting fictitious anecdotes.
Banri Settsu
Another student at Veludo Arts University, and Ai's kouhai. Ai often bullies Banri, and when asked why they do so, they often give backhanded compliments as a reply (for example, answering with, "It's because I need to humble my ultra-talented kouhai somehow"), much to Banri's confusion and frustration.
- Their moniker as a musician, ζβ‘YEU, is a pun on their mother languages of Japanese and Vietnamese. ζ is the kanji for their name, and is pronounced like the pronoun "I." YΓͺu is the Vietnamese word for love, and is pronounced like the pronoun "you." Therefore, their channel name can be read as "I love you," or "love love love."
- He often dyes his hair different colours. He sometimes helps Kazunari with touching up his roots.
- It is never confirmed if Ai's stories about being an alien are true or fake.
