The stress of her family's expectations affected Mendiant a little too strongly. Rather than double down, she rebelled - breaking things, acting out, the relatively quiet child went from soft spoken to an angry little tyrant, throwing things at maids and shoving chairs under her doorway. Her parents, at a loss of what to do with her, sent her off to military school, hoping it would calm her down and lead to a more manageable daughter.

The school, and moreover the distance from her parents and their expectations did more than just simply fix her, however. The structure and grit of the school remade her, and quite possibly out of spite for her parents, she skipped post secondary to sign up for the military.

Oh, but war is hell.

It was too late for her, though. The military had become the only life she had known, she couldn't remove herself from it. She let the tragedy and trauma shape her. She left her old life behind. She became a woman of empty smiles and a hollow self-assurance. She has everyone fooled - her soldiers, her friends, her family - everyone but herself.

Underneath her warm smile and confident demeanor, there's an angry thirteen year old who she has never stopped mourning.
