Tsukino Mengwen

Tsukino Mengwen (月乃 モンウエン Tsukino Monuen) is one of the main characters in the series Spirit Charge Pretty Cure. She is a first-year high school student at Ashita Academy. Her Pretty Cure ego is Cure Spark (キュアスパーク Kyua Supaaku). Despite being quite antisocial, she did manage to befriend a small group and eventually became best friends with them since they shared their roles as Pretty Cures. Her catchphrase is "You can do it if you try!" (やればできる！).

Mengwen has short, black hair that covers her right eye. Her eyes are dark brown. Her skin is slightly tanned. Her casual outfit consists of a dark blue, unzipped and hooded jacket with a light blue T-shirt underneath along with black pants, and a pair of black and blue sneakers worn with black socks. She is also sometimes seen wearing a black and white baseball cap.

When playing volleyball, she is seen wearing a black jersey with a 1 on the front and Ashita 1 on the back, black shorts, black knee pads, and a pair of white and blue volleyball shoes.

In Spirit Charge Pretty Cure: Gather the Five Lights!, Mengwen was seen wearing a pink unzipped jacket that matched with other Pretty Cures. She wore her light blue T-shirt under it, and she wore a gray skirt which belonged to her school uniform along with knee length socks and her black sneakers.

As Cure Spark Mengwen's hair grows quite long and the color turns pink. Her hair is tied in twin tails with white ribbons with dark pink details. Her eyes turn a dark pink. She wears a short dark pink sleeveless jacket with a light pink short sleeved under it with a pink colored heart with a ribbon attached to it on her chest. She wears a dark pink loose skirt with shorts under it along with pink gloves with purple details. She wears a pink band around her waist with a heart symbol on it. Her boots are pink with dark pink as she has a heart symbol on them.

Mengwen is the Captain of the volleyball club at Ashita Academy. She's quiet in the beginning as she is afraid to make friends. She's quite capable of standing up for herself. Her temper is short and she tends to get angry quite quickly, especially at teachers. She's quite strong in academics and in sports as she is quite popular among sport clubs to help out. She's energetic and can act childish once she warms up to people.

Despite being very tomboyish she can get along with people who are opposite of her personality as long as they're nice to her. Since she hates bullies a lot she tends to stand up quite quickly for people who get bullied. She is shown to be jealous sometimes of people who don't have much trust issues.

Deep down Mengwen can be sensitive, and she hates it to argue with her friends and being left alone. She hides those feelings by being teasingly and sometimes also provoking. She can have a sharp mouth sometimes and can be very salty as well.

Hali Swanson - Mengwen's best friend is Hali. Mengwen had been helping Hali to build up some more self confidence and before they knew it, the two became very close friends. Mengwen can get annoyed by Hali sometimes. Hali even told Mengwen that she looked up to her.

Jiang Feikong - Feikong is a lot like Mengwen in terms of personality. But before meeting Mengwen, she was always lonely and had no-one to spend time with at lunch. Ever since befriending Mengwen, the two have fun together and have a strong friendship. The two both share a quite competitive friendship.

Ienaka Fuuka - Fuuka and Mengwen are also quite similar to each other in terms of personality. The two have a big rivalry with each other, always trying to top each other in either academics or sports.

Evania Hawthorne - Evan usually doesn't seem to like Mengwen's personality very much, but she learned to cope with it and soon the two get along quite well. They discovered they both shared some of the same interests and befriend each other quite quickly.

Niji Kaga - Mengwen has a crush on Kaga's human form from. It was shown in many episodes that they had been together a lot and that Kaga really wants to protect her. He offered to have a dance with her in episode 36 for her birthday.

Oshidari Hazuki - Mengwen does not talk much with Hazuki, but she doesn't think of her in an annoying way and doesn't mind being around her. She thinks Hazuki is quite an excellent addition to the team.

Niji Cho - Cho and Mengwen are always in constant disagreements over almost everything. Cho criticizes Mengwen often because she doesn't think Mengwen is capable of being a leader. However, they begin a "friendship" later on.

Tsukino (月乃) - Tsuki (月) translates to "moon", possibly referring to light which is Spark's sub powers, and no (乃) translates to "a" or "from" which can make the name mean "From the moon".

Mengwen - As stated by Mengwen herself, it is a Chinese name, from which the Chinese characters were 夢文 which translates to dream and culture from which dream may refer to hopes.

Cure Spark - Spark referring to "A Spark of Hope." as she is a Pretty Cure of Hope.

When Mengwen was younger she would often get bullied by her female classmates because of her boyish personality traits. No one would ever help her stand up against the bullies and the teachers rarely stepped in. This caused Mengwen to distrust teachers. She often felt quite lonely because nobody liked to hang out with her and she slowly grew used to having no real friends.

Mengwen started her adventure when she was on her way home. While she left the library she blacked out and soon found herself in her own room after she woke up from a weird dream about the Pretty Cure. Once she was fully awake she heard some rumbling sounds around her desk. Suddenly Kaga popped out from under her school books, startling the girl as he was looking for the Spirit Pact which was in Mengwen's room, claiming it to be the Pretty Cure's, which confused Mengwen.

Kaga grabbed the Spirit Pact and ran away with it as he turned into his human form, surprising Mengwen quite a lot. She managed to tackle Kaga down, but then Noir attacked them. Mengwen made up her mind and used the Spirit Pact to transform into Cure Spark by shouting "Switch! Pretty Cure Spirit Charge!" She fought a monster and destroyed it with Sparkling Espoir.

Mengwen immediately went on her search for the other Pretty Cures as Kaga told her there were more Pretty Cures beside her. She then recruited Feikong after a coincidental bump. Soon the two recruited Fuuka and Yaku as Mengwen was helping out her club. They recruited Evan when they were in the city when they got disturbed by a Mujona while they were eating ice cream. Lastly, they recruited Hali as they were in a pinch, needing the fifth Pretty Cure.

Some time later, the Spirit Charge Pretty Cures got saved by a mysterious warrior called Shining Luna. They soon went on their hunt to find out who Shining Luna really was, later finding out it was Oshidari Hazuki from the soccer club.

Kagayaku kibō no Senkō, Kyua Supaaku!

Cure Spark (キュアスパーク Kyua Supaaku) is the leader of the group, and her costume matches with the other four Pretty Cures. Spark is noticeably more considerate than Mengwen. She gains more strength and never hesitates to help her friends. She's the type of person who'd never give up hope, which is why she is the Flash of Gleaming Hope.

Alone, Cure Spark can perform the attack Sparkling Espoir, Acceleration Punch and Aurora Fusion. When her powers get upgraded by her Sparkling Blade she can use the attack Sparkling Burst. Halfway of the season, the five girls can combine their attacks and perform the Final Gambit. Before the end of the season the five girls and Shining Luna managed to pull off a great combination attack called Starlight Explosion.

Switch! Pretty Cure Spirit Charge - "Switch! Pretty Cure Spirit Charge!" is the phrase Mengwen uses to transform into Cure Spark in Spirit Charge Pretty Cure.

Mengwen pushes a button on her Spirit Pact as she shouts "Switch!", the Spirit Pact changes into a watch-like device as she puts it around her left hand. She then slams her right hand on the watch while it's glowing pink as she shouts "Pretty Cure Spirit Charge!". Mengwen's hair grows longer as they get tied up in long twintails using white ribbons with dark pink details, then her arm gloves appear. Her upper body glows as her top and short jacket appear. Then Mengwen reaches out to her Spirit Pact, allowing it to change into a ribbon that attaches on her chest. Her boots and skirt appear after that. Finally, Cure Spark lands and recites her speech as she poses.

In Spirit Charge Pretty Cure: Gather the Five Lights!, the Pretty Cures are nearly defeated by Taikutsuna, but thanks to the six girls' prayers being heard, a special power grants Cure Spark a new power. She is able to transform into Shining Cure Spark. She is able to perform Super Sparkling Burst.

Infinity Spark (インフィニティスパーク Infiniti Supaaku) is the final form of Cure Spark. She and the other four cures obtained these powers thanks to Kaga and Yaku's powers. In this form she is able to perform the attack Starlight Explosion Extreme with the other four Cures and Shining Luna.

Mengwen's voice actor, RakuraiKaze, has provided her voice for several image songs for the character he voices.
