This isn't a character, but I couldn't find another way to add a general text concerning all three (four, counting Milo) characters.

CHRONOLOGY OF MEIWAKU

At the time Naomi arrives in Iya, Kanako and Hiro are entering their last year of high school. They come back from a summer vacation away from Iya, to find out that in their absence, a gaijin has moved in (an extremely rare and notable event), and that the gaijin in question is now studying with the local legendary samurai master. And that the gaijin is hella handsome. They go to meet Naomi and try to hit on her, fail miserably, and become friends.

It takes about a year before Naomi and Kanako confess their feelings. Kanako spends a lot of time coming to terms with the fact that she isn’t straight, and Naomi is certain that her feelings are unrequited. Meanwhile, Hiro, the only person with eyes in the group, is third-wheeling and growing every day more desperate at how fucking oblivious his two best friends are. Naomi and Kanako finally get together after Kanako opened up to Hiro about being queer, and was strongly advised to confess to Naomi. They keep their relationship a secret, because the locals are rather conservative and Kanako’s parents downright homophobic.

Kanako and Hiro stay two more years in Iya after graduating high school, because they go to the nearest university and their parents can’t afford them a flat. After that, they leave to go study in Osaka and very rarely come back to Iya. Kanako and Naomi mutually agree to break up. They stay in contact through a group chat and sometimes phone calls, but they don’t keep up with each other as much as they’d like to.

By the time Hiro and Kanako leave Iya, Naomi has met Lupin’s Gang and occasionally goes on heists with them (not every heist Goemon takes part in, just some).
Note: I haven’t decided yet how exactly Naomi meets Lupin’s Gang, because I have at least five different scenarios and I like all of them just as much.

In university, Kanako studies chemistry, and Hiro studies computer science and programming. They share a flat, since life in Osaka is a lot more expensive than it was in Iya. This is where Hiro meets Milo Clarke, a medical student who he becomes study buddies with as they both study in the university library around the same time. They quickly become friends and develop feelings for each other, and end up together after a lot of mutual pining.

About a year or two after they’ve left Iya, Naomi runs into Kanako, Hiro and a few of their uni friends (including Milo) while running away from the police with the Gang after a heist. The incident ends with Naomi and Goemon wrecking a bunch of police cars while Lupin and Jigen make away with the loot, and Kanako and Hiro finally finding out that their best friend is a criminal. They confront Naomi about it and learn the whole story: that the samurai master she’s been training under is an assassin and a thief, that she’s spent the past few years carrying out heists with the most wanted master thief of the world, and that she ran away from her homeland after killing two men (in self-defence, but still). In the confrontation, Naomi in a fit of anger reveals to Kanako that Hiro is a shinobi. Kanako takes all this news rather badly, and she and Hiro cut off all contact to Naomi for a long time. They eventually make up, as Hiro and Kanako are mostly mad at her not for being a thief but for keeping it away from them.

Five years after having met Goemon and started studying with him, Naomi finally leaves him and Lupin’s Gang to work on her own as a mercenary and/or bodyguard (still refusing to kill people unless strictly necessary). Eventually, all the members of Meiwaku plus Milo get back together to form a thieves gang, and Naomi and Kanako get back together as a couple.

There is no leader or hierarchy in Meiwaku. Hiro is (usually) the brains, as well as the “sneak in undetected through the vents” guy, and occasional tech expert. Naomi and Kanako are the arms, with Naomi also heavily relying on her acting talents and her androgyny, and Kanako making explosives, smoke bombs and other chemistry-related gadgets. Milo is the medic.
