Summary
A cat born in the company of humans, much like the leader of the Wayfarers, but under very different circumstances. Bred to be a show cat but lacking the coloration for the task, Naomi ultimately grew up as entire litters of her siblings were purchased and went to what she could only assume were loving homes, where they presumably found success in the field. With this came a constant feeling of self-loathing, the knowledge that she wasn't good enough for any of them, even despite her owner's best efforts to convince their buyers that she would be worth their time and money.
These constant reminders of her failure eventually got to be too much for Naomi, and when the opportunity presented itself, she slipped away out into the streets with the strays and ferals. There, they said she was beautiful... but how could she believe them, at that point? Their compliments only hurt more.
In the end, she found that she couldn't stay out on the streets with the local cats, either, their words too painful to withstand. And so when the Wayfarers made their way through her city, she went with them gladly - Even if she couldn't understand why Beatrix would show such determination in returning to the humans who scorned her, just as so many had done to her.
Trivia
- Naomi is an American Shorthair, a breed whose best in show winners in the CFA are comprised almost entirely of tabbies - Naomi, very clearly not being a tabby, was dismissed by most buyers due to her coat, and those who still considered her ultimately wrote her off due to her eye color not matching up to breed standard for her coloration.
- Naomi tends to compensate for her lack of self-worth with an overly-composed demeanor - While this allows her to take compliments well externally despite the way they wound her emotionally, she can come off as cold and arrogant as a result, pushing others further away more often than not.
- Aside from simply getting away from her life with the other strays, Naomi has developed something of a new goal since joining the Wayfarers - Namely, dissuading Beatrix from her goal in an attempt to protect her.
