TUCK

ABOUT

As an artificer, Tuck has chosen to specialize in developing magi-tech to aid in navigation through places heavily contanimated by arcane energy. The area of his focus is fairly close to home: a tract of forest between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. Locals call it the Fey Forest. Or the Warp Woods if they're looking to underscore the foreboding of this place. Either way, it's an ever-shifting span of wilds whose geography has remained anomalous for centuries.

Near its center, some believe there are artifacts from an era lost in the miasma between folklore and history. Some also say that here, there is a snare in the weave. A place where the metaphysical fabric of reality had been torn and darned shut.

Tuck isn't the only person interested in this hotbed of magic, either. Others have begun to pry into the woods, trying to glean its secrets, extract its resources, pulling on the threads of the tapestry until one day -- it snaps. When the weave is torn open, Tuck and his partner both happened to be caught nearly in the center of the following tsunami of magical and intraplanar energy. Not close enough to see what did the tearing, but certainly close enough to be heavily afflicted.

PHYSIOLOGY & PERSONALITY

Between father, Harper, and mother, Kati, Tuck can most directly trace his lineage to: Firblog, Human, and most prominently, Genasi. Him and his other three siblings all have malachite-colored smooth patterning on their skin.

Any scarring they incur also reflects this material. Their skin, especially in these areas, is a bit tougher than average humanoid, but they're not full elementals.

Standing at roughly 5'7" with a compact build, most of Tuck seems to, in fact, be structured around not taking up much space. Mild-mannered, jittery, and eager to avoid conflict, which often leads to his boundaries being stepped on. Despite this it's hard to label him a coward when it comes down to it: he's stupid brave. Pure pineal gland.

PURSUITS & CAREER

Tuck's always had an interest in the intersection between magic and machine, seeing magic as a material force, like water or wind. With Genasi parentage came an eye for all things metal and mineral. He worked to hone this keen sense in order to seek out and appraise materials for their magical properties, as well as their magically conductive properties. These forces have combined to make him a promising artificer.

His current research concerns a navigational device that combines fey magic-repellants such as iron, as well as a highly magnetic mineral used in navigation known as lodestone.

THE SPELLPLAGUE

After the weave is torn open, Tuck finds himself the victim of a new type of plaguechange: rapid variant. Aggressive, malign, fey magic-infused lycanthropy essentially, resulting in a semi-bestial form wreathed in feyfire. The effect of this near instant change are panic-inducing, blindingly painful, and nearly ego-killing.

Purchase is only found and maintained because his partner (heavily incurring some spellscarring himself) managed to yank him somewhere that he could collect himself and claw his way back from the fringes. Even when his normal shape is restored, Tuck's once earthy green malachite inlays are permanently changed to an eerie bright blue.
