Originally from Algeria, she had a spouse and children and was educated as a medical doctor. During the war for independence, she joined the fight against the French occupation, mostly aiding the resistance in a medical capacity. After being injured by an explosion and left for dead in 1961, she was captured as a POW and found herself in the hands of a French Tremere scientist by the name of Fabrius, at first as a test subject. Over the course of her imprisonment, she gained the trust of Fabrius, and became his assistant. Later, she was offered membership in the clan itself after the regnant of Marseilles took a particular interest in her.

On the outside, she keeps things professional, but can be sardonically passive-aggressive, condescending, spiteful, and even sadistic at times. On the inside she is listless, guilty, traumatized by the brutality of war, victim to relentless nightmares, and haunted by an unresolved need for retribution. Siding with Fabrius was what she had to do to survive, but it was ultimately a surrender to an oppressor and made many of the losses she suffered feel ultimately meaningless. She struggles to justify her continued existence.

She was blinded by shrapnel from an explosive during the war. Her eyes were replaced as part of Fabrius' experiments, but the new eyes are imperfect. She has to wear corrective lenses and, more importantly, there are constantly white spots and color distortions in her vision.

She dislikes westerners in general. She was raised with Islam, but is not a practicing muslim. She was quietly out as a lesbian in the 1950s. She is well-versed in French postmodernism. Her specialty as a doctor originally was pediatrics, but her experience is mostly as a trauma surgeon.
