Akira and Akane are separate entities that act as one. They typically sync up and finish each other's sentences, and can communicate via telepathy. Their thoughts and feelings are often connected and it's difficult to determine if they have their own thoughts. Most of the time they do not, but on very rare occassions when they are separated from each other, they will speak free of the other's influence, though since they are both nearly identical in nature, most of their opinons and feelings are aligned and will not differ despite their distance from each other. To add to the confusion, when speaking normally, their voices are identical and so when they speak, it's difficult to determine who is speaking if both are talking, or if the person who encounters them cannot see the speaker.
However, there are a few differences between the two. While both are nonbinary and it's difficult to determine a gender for either of them from first glance, Akira is referred to with male pronouns and Akane is referred to with female pronouns. Appearance wise, it's easy to tell them apart, but their mischievous nature comes into play and sometimes they will swap their appearance at will. The twins are also able to change their voice at will to lure people towards time, and may sometime speak to each other in different voice to create the illusion of multiple people (this often creates a sense of security for those lost in the twins' territory).
They are often found together, and if one is encountered alone, it will usually mean bad news for whoever has run into them. The other will definitely be nearby, ready to prey on their unsuspecting victim.
