Interface: Kou appears on the Interface, a neutral. He didn't belong anywhere, unwelcome to both viruses and anti-viruses. Ren didn't mind, and helped him find a place to stay. Their relationship is complicated. Kou doesn't remember who he is, where he comes from. Ren never moved on from the death of his sister. The Interface is unstable, unsafe. Things never resolve within the System, but the virtuals find freedom in Astralis. Kou remembers who he is. The revolution changes things. Ren fights against Kou's wishes, and the two part ways. When the war is done, Ren works with Inna to start a cafe/nursery business. Kou returns to him, and with time and space the two manage to slowly heal.
SDFH: Ren trains Kou in his early years in Sanctuary. Later, Kou offers to help Ren sleep through his nightmares, using the calming effects of light magic. The two's lives become intertwined as they both work through the traumas of their youth.
They live together with their cat.
Kou feels many things on the regular. Unfortunately, he's not in tune with his feelings, and does his best not to feel them. It's a little unlikely that Ren of all people would help him with that, but he was surprisingly instrumental in pushing Kou to finally process his issues.
Kou is cute, he doesn't think much beyond that (lol jk).
- Kou is a little tea connoisseur. Loves tea, collects tea from around the world in SDFH-verse. He teaches Ren about tea, and then Ren becomes a tea stan. It literally becomes Ren's career, because he later opens a cafe that is not coffee friendly, that primarily serves tea, with an attached nursery. Kou is just happy he gets free tea.
- Ren calls Kou 'little light.' Kou isn't smart enough to think of any pet names.
- Kou likes to cook, and initially Ren is only capable of burning things. During Kou's time in hospital, Ren learns to cook (through much trial and error).
- Kou cries along. It's got nothing to do with their dynamic, I think it's just important to comment on. It's his first reaction to anything.
