Abyss is a soul giant, unique in that her souls don't share a single uniting factor. Tambor is mostly made up out of outgoing and brash souls, Sentak is made up of introverted or calm souls (all of which are taken from living people); these correlations are part of what makes them as stable as they are.
Abyss is different. She consists of entire souls, both living and dead, combined into one being.
She's also unique because instead of being constructed, she naturally formed from the souls of dead or suffering people in a slum somewhere on 1B. One person died, that person's soul aimlessly wandered until it absorbed the soul energy of another dead person, on and on and on until there was so much energy and consciousnesses combined into one being that their individuality was shut down completely. They devolved into a rabid, animalistic and non-sapient entity whose only purpose was to devour more souls and gain more energy. An insatiable and destructive black hole.
At one point in the timeline another character, Susan, is almost killed in these slums. She's stabbed and left to die, because the man who killed her failed to stay and finish the job properly. Abyss finds this woman, still dying, and ends up possessing her body. Because Susan was strong willed and still alive, she maintained some level of control, and after some struggle time the two formed a symbiotic relationship. Thanks to Susan's influence and soul, Abyss began to siphon that will and become sapient. She's not benevolent by any means, but she is more than capable of cunning human thought.
Her form evolved from a beastly shadow-like entity to a more humanoid shape. As time went on she developed more feminine physical traits mostly based on her self-expression (and the influence of Susan's soul), however she still retained her shapeshifting abilities.
Her personality is always jovial at the expense of others. She laughs loudly and often, and is given literal and metaphorical power when faced with individuals who suffer or are in pain. In her current state she is capable of splitting apart into crystalized fragments that are aesthetically similar to obsidian, and using these fragments to corrupt and possess people or animals that come in contact with them.
She is one of if not the oldest soul giant on Admaa, making her a very wily and ruthless opponent to face in combat. In a more casual setting she's just sadistic, sarcastic, rude and obnoxious. Abyss is always finding something funny enough to H̸̢͞E̸̕HE͠H̕͜È̸H͟A̢͘H̷͘A̷H͜A̢͞!̢͢͜!̕͢͠ about.
