She was born outside of Wild Equines to Miyax and Ahiga. She grew up with her older sister, Kaja. However, shortly after she was weaned, her parents became ill. They passed away within days of each other. She and Kaja left to go back to Wild Equines and join Shadow Canyon, the herd where her parents had lived. The two of them arrived during a flood of Shadow Canyon. They were greeted by Chime and Nikko's Melody, who welcomed them in. The water receeded after a week or so and the lands returned to normal. Teya had a bit of a difficult time adjusting to a new land without her parents. One day, she met Chime who was doing some herbs. Teya decided to try to teach herself herbs and she found she enjoyed it. It occupied her time and her busy mind.
