Summary

AETHER is an unfinished organic artificial inkdrian designed specifically to look child-like and cute. They're a meek and quiet child, but they're determined to stay happy and carefree. They behave a lot like a regular young kid would admittedly without the brattiness and are happy and friendly. They're hard to upset and have an optimistic outlook about them most of the time. Aether is incredibly naive and innocent, and they're just a pure goopy mess who's trying their best.

➣ Description

Aether is the sweetest kid you'd probably ever meet. They want to be friends with everybody, young or old, whether people around them dislike them or not. They have a bit of a stutter and due to being inside most of the time are a little shy and softspoken, but once they're befriended, they never stop babbling. Aether is easily amused and giggly, and things like pretty music, pretty drawings, or magic is enough to get them happy. They hardly judge people but are a little afraid that they themselves would be judged, as they've never seen an ink quite like them - so goopy and with flowers in all the wrong places - making them even more shy towards people.

The kid's got lots of love to give, though. They admire and adore pretty much everyone that they meet and become friends with, and give them little nicknames and get all giggly. Even when they're sad or scared, most of the time seeing a friend or even someone they know is enough to shake them out of it and get them moving. Admittedly they're fairly naive and know next to nothing about the world outside of Chandra's house and the village nearby it, but that won't stop them from trying to befriend everybody!

➣ Quirks & Habits

  • They draw pictures to show their love. If they draw someone something that person has been blessed and will likely be adored by Aether until the end of time itself.

  • They tend to goop/melt more when experiencing extreme anger or sadness. Luckily this never really happens, but that... is a thing that happens.

  • Aether always always always tries to help out someone in pain or need - they know what it is to hurt so badly, they have to live with it. and they don't want others to have to live with it too.

  • Despite being happy 24/7, Aether rarely smiles (or frowns), at least not very widely. It pulls on their mouth and hurts so they avoid it..

Appearance

➣ Basics

Height || 4'5 Eyes || Their gradient (pink, purple, blue) with heart-shaped dark purple pupils.
Build || Small, thin, fragile. Hair Color || Pink, purple, blue gradient + pink and blue sparkles
Ink Color || Bright pastel blue Hair Style || Short & choppy with long bangs + a heart-shaped fluff
Features || Aether sort of "melts" everywhere. Their markings run and their ink drips. While their hair stays mostly normal, their sparkles occasionally sprinkle off too. In Inkdrian terms, their rare traits are stomach and tail bristles, their pastel blue skin, their pupils, and the fact that they're an organic artink.

➣ Description

Aether is a short, child-like inkdrian. They're very brightly colored and were designed specifically by their creators in a lab to look 'cute'. They have short, sparkly hair, runny markings that are more geometrically shaped, pastel blue skin, and a short curly tail with bristles. However, their status as an artificial inkdrian results in some deformities, like their stomach bristles, their (one-color: purple) flowers being in their cheeks instead of their head, and of course their ink 'melting' everywhere. While they do have a tail, they do not have branches.

➣ Aesthetic

Aether likes to wear bright and bold colors that stand out, especially purples and blues because it reminds them of themself. They prefer shorter clothes because if they wear something long, their runny ink often stains. However in replacement for this, they like long, transparent flowy things. They stain a lot less, and Aether just thinks that they look cool! Otherwise, Aether will wear pretty much everything that's presented to them.

➣ Important Notes

  • The flower's in Aether's mouth are rooted deep in their face; thus it hurts when they speak, and so they don't do it often..

  • Aether can start blushing and tearing up at random times. It's not their emotion, but their unfinished nature makes things that were only partially implemented (like blushing and crying) go wild.

  • They goop even more than most regular artinks because they're unfinished. Even when loaded up on ink, they'll never ever quite be stable.

  • Their heart pupils are deep purple, not black.

History

➣ Background

When some inkdrians want children, they never want them to grow up. The idea is quite simple, but not one that you could ever achieve with a regular child. For a while the wish of having a child stay young forever was a dream in the distance, but then in a technical revolution came the artificial inkdrian. Many inks wanted one for many different reasons, but an old inkdrian couple who had never quite desired to see their child grow old like they had requested one so they could finally have a child of their own. Thus was the birth of ART-1793, a project running in inkdrian labs to work on the requested child. For about six months, things ran smoothly, but then the machines sustaining 1793's development malfunctioned and broke down permanently. On their last legs and seeing no way of and no value in saving the child, the laboratory fired the scientists and threw the (what they thought was) deactivated project out to the streets.

Quickly after, though, the unconscious child was discovered by a witch named Chandra who had been poking around what he thought was a suspicious area. He'd thought that they were dead, but upon realizing they were actually alive and were an artificial inkdrian and oh my god they're gooping everywhere, he took the child back to his house and began patching them up. Aether soon woke up, leading to some of their first memories. Neither of them were quite sure how to handle the other at first, with Aether hardly knowing how to walk let alone communicate, and Chandra not quite sure how to, y'know, raise a child. But because they were an artink, they learned incredibly fast, and those barriers were overcome fairly quickly. The first real breakthrough was when Chandra asked them what their name was, and Aether (now having sort of a grasp on both walking and speaking) told him they had none.

Chandra asked them if they liked the name Aether. He said it fit them, 'cuz they were blue like the sky. Aether liked the sky, so they said yes, and from then on they were Aether.

➣ Family

Aether, being an artink, has no biological family in their life: their only family is Chandra. However, Aether thinks firmly that they don't need any parents, because Chandra does the job more than good enough to them. He teaches them, talks to them, gives them their ink when they need it, lifts them up on his shoulders and pretends that they can fly, takes them outside all the time... He's funny and nice and he makes them happy all the time and Aether just thinks he's the best person in the whole world!

➣ Important Moments

  • Aether's creation was technically started a year and a half ago in canon; however Aether and Chandra consider both consider them 1 year old because a. they were still in creation and b. neither of them know how long the project lasted.

  • Koios and Nephele both worked on Aether's creation together; both were fired, and it makes Aether nauseous to be around them for some strange reason - their time in creation also leads their fear of cramped spaces and darkness (from testing tubes).

  • Aether is hyperallergic to water, especially because they're unfinished. If they're outside, which isn't too often because of the safety risks (and also Chandra doesn't go out that much in the first place) they carry around big jackets and huge juiceboxes and/or juice pouches full of ink.

  • While they're able to understand and process speech and what it means fine, Aether still struggles with speaking themselves - both because of the pain and that they're still new at learning it. They often call people short versions of their names for convenience or just because they like them (eg. Chan-Chan, Starry, etc.)

➣ TRIVIA

Relationships

3411340_aPlwGPxNbuFQSVH.png ➣ CHANDRA

Chan-chan is Aether's best friend in the whole wide world. Even though they don't have many friends, Chan is still the best ever! He's always really really nice to them, and he makes them smile whenever they're sad. Some of Aether's first memories are of Chan (the others were from strange metal places, but Aether tries not to remember those!!) when he first met them. He always frames up drawings that Aether does for him, and sometimes he'll create cool shapes with his magic like wings so they can pretend to fly. They've never seen him be anything but nice to anyone! Plus, Chan always accepts them for stuff that they think might be 'weird' to other inks, like all the goopiness and their flowers and their eyes... Chan-chan tells them they're the best ever!! But Aether knows that's not true, because /he's/ the best one ever! Aether couldn't imagine being without Chan.

3411340_aPlwGPxNbuFQSVH.png ➣ KOIOS

...They recognize him, but they just... can't remember from where... Something dark and scary... Aether's fine being around him when they go to the library with Chan-Chan, but they really really don't like trying to remember where they know him from. It makes their tummy all sick and queasy...

3411340_aPlwGPxNbuFQSVH.png ➣ STARGAZER

Oooh, Starry! Aether's never seen anybody like them before. Chan-Chan says they're something called a "Legendary", whatever that means. But woah!!! Aether really likes it whenever Starry comes by, because they're just like them, except.... uh..... older - yeah, they've got the sparkles and those weird parts of their eyes and everything! Sometimes, if Aether tries reeeally hard, they can get Starry to stick around for a while and talk to them. But Starry's started coming by less often... and Ms, uhhhhh, Circe! right! doesn't seem to like Starry all that much either... Aether doesn't really get it, and it makes them sad that they can't see one of their friends that much anymore...
