Buttercup was abandoned as an infant, and found by Jesse Mccree while he was still a member of the Deadlock Gang. He brought her home to the base for the night, as it was snowing, cold, and she was only in a basket with a blanket in danger of freezing to death. He brought her back to the spot day after day, waiting for her parents to eventually come and get her. They didn't, so after a month of waiting she was officially adopted into the gang and was raised by them.
As she grew up, Ashe refused to allow her to go on any missions. After the events of ██████, Buttercup was determined to prove herself as she was convinced that, if she was there, Jesse would not have succeeded so thoroughly at taking the goods from them. So she set out on a solo mission, to rob a store she knew was a front for something at least. This led to her capture at the hands of Talon, who proceeded to use her as a bargaining chip with Deadlock, whom they'd wanted to work with for years.
Ashe let her free after signing the agreement with Talon, and, sucking up her pride, told Buttercup to go get Jesse and Overwatch to help them. Buttercup agreed, and collapsed on Overwatch's doorstep after ████ of searching. They took her in, listened to her story, and agreed to help them. With time, she began to grow attached to the members of Overwatch, and when the time came to choose, Ashe encouraged her to follow her heart, and she joined them.
- Learned how to shoot from Bars. It was initially incredulous about the kid, but grew to care immensely for her.
- The buttercup on her hat is a pin given to her for her 6th birthday. It was originally a different colour but the paint scratched away.
- Has a horse named Oreo, whom she loves dearly.
- Will sob over romantic comedies.
- Is good at patching up wounds.
- Wears a yellow Deadlock bandana to feel included.
For all her sweet nature and preference not to hurt people, she is still an incredibly good shot and is dangerous to face in battle. She should not be underestimated just because she is kind.
