Born to uncaring parents, he was the sole caregiver for his younger brother until his parents left them and they were separated. He was adopted by a man that ran a humble bookstore and treated him like a slave worker until the man passed away and left him the bookstore when he was a young adult. He had a friend who used him to get alchemy supplies and stopped coming around when he cut him off and a girlfriend who used him to gain information to give to her actual lover, eventually dumping him and telling him she was using him when he had nothing left to give her.
