Though he is a minor character in Mestas' regular timeline, Rath is a main character in You Were Born to Burn It Down, her AU timeline.

Rath is a viashino who grew up as the son of his camp's leader, and as a member of the Gruul Clans he was  constantly fighting the others in his age group, both for dominance and to prove he couldn't be picked on. His efforts weren't entirely successful until his father recruited a single human into their camp: Mestas. Like the rest of the camp Rath hated her at first, even moreso when he was the one assigned to train her to hunt and fight like Gruul. They were all just waiting for her to get scared and run off, or more likely be killed.

But over time, he actually grew to like Mestas. Like him, she didn't give up when she got beaten down, only throwing herself harder into her training after every defeat. They were roughly the same age and thus dealing with the same "bullies" as it were, so Rath eventually asked if she would like to team up. Two on two would even the playing field quite a bit if they could work on their teamwork.

That offer grew into a lifelong friendship as well as eventually placing the two at the top of their age group's food chain, though their childhood enemies still challenged them every chance they got.

To Mestas and his father Tavrik, Rath is sarcastic, teasing, and only gets serious when Mestas hatches some scheme capable of putting her in serious danger. To the rest of the camp and in fact the whole Clan, Rath is a ticking time bomb of rage. Though he holds in in fairly well and manages to restrain himself from killing in spars (even when the Snake Twins try their damnedest to kill him), outsiders see a very different, colder version of the viashino youth, a viciously aggressive one that is quite capable of killing opponents much stronger than he is.

That rage constantly simmers under the surface, building until the pressure explodes, and the only two people who see that and don't hold him at arm's length because of it are Tavrik and Mes.

And that's all that keeps him from becoming a danger to the entire Clan.
