Homeworld was trying to create another pearl, but an amethyst still developing mixed into it unknowingly. This resulted in an elegant gem with solder like abilities.

She was passed along from one Homeworld elite to another. They all treated her terribly. One day while Opal was serving another gem, a rebel group busted in and destroyed the gems she was currently serving. Opal ended up pleading for her life and joined the rebels.
