History:

Komugi appears to have quite a complicated family background, which resulted in her selfish personality.

Her upbringing during her earlier years was lovely and peaceful. She maintained a good relationship with her parents and older sister; however, it all started going downhill when Komugi attended elementary school. Within the first few weeks, Komugi was a pretty average student - while her sister, who had just started middle school, was already at the top of her class, passing the school's entrance exam with a perfect score. This caused their parents to compare the two sisters, often telling the young Komugi that she was a failure and how she could tarnish the family name by being "average" while her sister was a genius.

Incredibly hurt by her parents' harsh comments, Komugi was pushed to do better in her studies, and when she finally managed to get a perfect score on one of her tests, she was delighted; she wanted to share this accomplishment with her parents but was quickly dismissed by her mother who told her she had more important matters to tend to than look at the test results of their average daughter. These "important matters" that she had to tend to were praising her sister for being at the top of her class and excelling in her extracurricular activities, such as playing the cello, being a part of the student council, and, top it off, her excellent skills in housework.

To make matters worse, Komugi witnessed all the praise directed at her sister; it wasn't even accidental. Her mother made sure that Komugi was present while doing so. Her parents placed her in multiple extracurricular activities to "catch up" to her sister and even hired a home tutor for Komugi despite her being so young. Growing up, Komugi never really had the opportunity to make friends with people her age. Not that it bothered her since, in her eyes, all else was insignificant, and the only thing that mattered was the acknowledgement of her parents. This goal made her wholly engrossed in improving at everything she was told to do.

By the time of her second year in middle school, Komugi's near-perfect grades were consistent; she was able to play the cello, was considerably skilled in all areas of housework, and was a natural at gymnastics, even participating in competitions and bringing home medals, as well as trophies. Komugi felt accomplished by these achievements and the praise and attention she received; however, Komugi never received the praise she yearned for from her parents. Despite all her efforts, they were still focused on her sister, who had graduated high school as valedictorian and gotten into The University of Tokyo. It didn't take much time for Komugi to realize that she could never match up to her sister, no matter how hard she tried.

This made her feel inferior in every way possible, and her sudden change in demeanour from an icy cold princess to a damsel in distress did not go unnoticed by her classmates.  Excluding passing worksheets and collecting homework, it was probably the first time her classmates spoke to her; the walls she surrounded herself with seemed to have crumbled down, making Komugi more approachable than before.  Her classmates could speak to her aside from collecting homework and passing sheets. They realized that Komugi never let the conversation extend beyond what was needed, as if she never viewed them as classmates or acquaintances but as strangers; additionally, whenever they would invite her to hang out after school, such as going out to karaoke or doing homework in the library.

Komugi sounded as if she was dictating what to do and would be visibly annoyed when they didn't listen to her; this is evident when she would point out people who sing out of tune, proceeded to show them how to be ideally in tune or when she looks visibly annoyed when her classmates aren't able to keep up with her while doing homework. She would belittle a few for not understanding something she explained once or finding difficulty solving "basic" maths problems.

This resulted from her strict upbringing, where nothing but the best was accepted, and because of that, Komugi expects the same. As a consequence, her classmates' views of her changed. They would speak among themselves about how rude and bossy she was, especially when she made one of them cry after being too harsh when she couldn't meet her expectations when a teacher asked Komugi to help improve her grades, going as far as to say she was "a lost cause" and not worth her time or energy.

The girls described her as proud, selfish, and haughty. Just because she was good at everything doesn't mean everyone is. What irritated them was how the boys practically worshipped Komugi –  she was rich, intelligent, and beautiful. It didn't matter to them that she almost treated them like dirt. She didn't care if the girls stopped talking to her and avoided her. She was there to be the best, not to make friends. That was basically what her middle school life was like, shunned and isolated by her female classmates while the males would go behind her with their tails between their legs.  During this time, she started to notice how fake her family was.

They would pretend to be a perfect family who was very loving in front of people, but things were different at home. Her parents only ever praised Juri, and Komugi's accomplishments were non-existent to them. Her parents didn't love each other; they were, in fact, quite distant. They slept in separate rooms. They never ate meals together. They never did anything together unless outsiders were watching. Komugi doesn't even remember the last time they had a meal together as a family, as she always ate alone. She turned a blind eye to her mother's infidelity despite seeing her kiss another man.

It wasn't her business, and it was not like her father didn't know about it – he, too, chose to turn a blind eye towards it as long as she pretended to be the perfect model wife. Finding the environment suffocating to be in, she absorbed herself into school. She excelled in academics and sports, joining the student council and acquiring the president's post in her final year. Additionally, Komugi would often stay out late, only coming home when she knew both her parents were asleep and would leave home before they woke up, avoiding them altogether. Her attending Inarizaki was due to her sister being an alumna of said school and its good reputation. This behaviour extended even at Inarizaki High when she was distant from her family and classmates. Her male classmates named her "princess" around the middle of her 1st year.

Appearance:

Komugi appears to be a petite young woman of short stature with an incredibly slim build due to her constant practice in gymnastics, her most noticeable feature being her waist.  Her mauve hair falls to her chest and is pretty wavy, having romantic waves that are tamer when wet. Two sections of hair part in the middle, falling on both sides of her face, covering both corners of her eyes. Her hair's tips have been dyed, giving off an ombré of a lighter, brighter shade of mauve. Her eyes are gold and sharp, intimidating even. Komugi is usually seen with a blank, un-amused expression, though she consistently smiles during cheer practice. Her second most common expression is one of annoyance. She is noted to be very beautiful by her male and female classmates and is often described as "the girl who's pretty enough to steal your boyfriend" throughout high school.

For her school uniform, Komugi wore a white dress shirt buttoned up all the way and left her sleeves as they were instead of rolling them, even if she felt hot. She wears a black ribbon, does not wear the school blazer, and only does so during frigid weather. Her shirt is tucked into a black skirt that reaches her thighs. Instead of the usual black socks, Komugi wears dark-coloured stockings, though not necessarily black, with brown school shoes. Additionally, Komugi wears an orange shade of lipstick to complete her look.

While cheering for official matches, Komugi wears the standard cheerleader uniform with no alterations during cheer practice. Outside of school and club activities, Komugi wears feminine, elegant, and stylish clothing. Often wearing dresses, skirts, blouses and, on rare occasions, pants. She never wears shorts or tank tops except for her pyjamas or during gymnastic practices.

Komugi's height remains the same even in the post-time skip. The only difference in her appearance was her hair as she had let it grow out - it now reached her lower back and was no longer dyed in a lighter ombre. The bangs that framed her face seemed to be longer as well. Komugi's expression is no longer intimidating, but she remains a poker face most of the time.

Personality:

Typical of a rich girl, Komugi is incredibly spoilt and does not know the value of money or put it more clearly; she knows its value. Still, she doesn't think much of it due to never having any financial difficulties while growing up. She likes expensive items and would purchase them without a second thought as long as it meets her wants and needs. In addition, Komugi has never really tried to spend lightly, even when out with others. This is evident when she went out with her middle school classmates in her second year when they had all decided to go shopping.

Komugi always bought the most expensive items in the shop, even buying large quantities without thinking twice. You could say she is impulsive; she sees something she likes and immediately wants it to be in her possession without a second thought. Similarly, Komugi quickly discards objects she finds no longer helpful, no matter the price. She appears ungrateful because she never really holds value in her purchases, as money isn't an issue. Her attitude even extends to her friendships and relationships with others, making her appear cold and hostile. She is also incredibly selfish, showing little concern for others and valuing her goals and enjoyment above everyone else's.

In addition, Komugi was often described as a haughty individual; as someone born into a family of high expectations, Komugi was tailored to excelling in academics and any extracurricular activities she participated in. As a result of this, you could say she was proud of her efforts. Still, some took it the wrong way and viewed it as arrogance that she was boasting about her seemingly perfect upbringing in the eyes of outsiders when, in reality, she was just proud of herself for making it so far.

However, she does appear arrogant when she belittles others for not knowing something so simple and dictates how a particular task should be done, appearing very controlling and domineering. It gives off a feeling that she thinks she is better than most people (which is seen to be confirmed), resulting in her being disliked by others. She looks down on her peers, especially when she knows she can do something better than them. Since she excels in almost everything, she's good at it, and it boosts her pride and ego.

This causes others to view her as over-confident as she has shown well at everything she does. She claims she is 'perfect' and that everyone else is inferior. Additionally, her speaking comes off as rude and condescending since she generally does not have anything nice to say; she pays no attention to how her words and actions could affect those around her. Komugi pays no attention to this since she has always believed that everyone else's opinions besides her parents are irrelevant to her.

She is, in fact, a result of the harsh upbringing her parents had put her through; early on, she had it drilled into her head that imperfections were not allowed. This mindset made her a perfectionist; like Atsumu, Komugi sets ridiculously high standards for herself, even expecting such standards from others. When they fail to meet her expectations, she becomes visibly irritated and belittles the other person, regardless of the amount of effort they have put in.

She does so to herself in a similar fashion, downgrading herself when she doesn't meet her standards, but the difference lies in the fact that Komugi tells herself to try harder, but not to others. She completely loses it when she doesn't get the outcome she wishes for, beating herself up about it in a much harsher manner than when she does so to others and when she has calmed down, she tells herself to try harder; however, these words that generally sound encouraging sound almost threatening, as if her whole life depended on it. This can be seen when Shinsuke took the top spot in their school after the midterms, and she came second to him.

Socially, she is disliked not only because of her attitude but also by girls who are jealous of how she can easily catch the eyes of any male in their school and other schools, earning her the title of "pretty enough to steal your boyfriend." Her overall behaviour and the way she treats others could reflect the fact that she was socially selective for the most part. Although not outright manipulative, Komugi would only let people who are beneficial to her hang around. They do not exist to her if they fail to meet such expectations.

This is seen when she doesn't bother to learn her classmates' names, often referring to them as 'you' when speaking to them. This habit was toned down when her sister said she wanted Komugi to make some "good friends" instead of "beneficial ones". This resulted in her opening up slightly and speaking to middle-class or average people (as she describes them). Still, the fact that she never really spent time around people her age while growing up made it difficult to even speak to her casually, as she was always very formal and spoke business-like.

Her usually resting-bitch face giving off an intimidating aura doesn't help much, either. It took time for her to speak casually, as she had to learn how to "straighten up." She shows a kinder side towards these individuals and can be pretty sassy, but that doesn't excuse the fact that she treats anyone outside of this circle poorly. Her ill-treatment towards others was addressed by Shinsuke, who saw through her words, asking her if the only reason she treated them that way was so that she could make herself feel better.

After pondering it for a while, Komugi realized his words were valid. She was only ever compared while growing up, with her faults and mistakes pointed out instead of receiving praise. As a result, she would attempt to find flaws in others to be looked over, giving herself a false sense of superiority. Since then, Komugi has slowly started showing little changes in her personality. During the post-time skip, she appears to have mellowed down; even if she had something that didn't meet her expectations, she would keep it to herself. Additionally, Komugi has put thought and consideration into her words and the possible effect on the person on the receiving end. She generally appears more friendly and approachable than in high school.

Relationships:

Juri Oguro

Despite being constantly compared to her sister since she started school, Komugi could never really come to hate Juri. Juri was a kind soul caught up in their parents' selfish ambitions. The two of them were once incredibly close when they were younger; Juri made sure to spend any free time playing with Komugi.

She also taught Komugi how to read and write and would often read her fairytales before putting her to sleep. A slight strain in their relationship was born when Komugi grew old enough to attend school due to their parents comparing them. There were times when Komugi would avoid Juri due to developing an inferiority complex over her and feeling physically sick around her. Still, Juri would attempt to speak to her; examples were when she would write idle conversation on a notebook and have one of the maids pass it on to Komugi or when she talked to her through a closed door. At first, Komugi never gave Juri responses, but that made her feel worse, and soon, she slowly started writing back to her.

The two would have regular conversations through the exchanged notebook as Komugi still felt she wasn't ready to speak to her in person. When Juri had moved out around the time Komugi entered middle school, Komugi felt incredibly lonely and regretted never talking to her in person. She would receive letters from Juri, where she spoke about her experiences in Tokyo. She looked forward to receiving these letters, especially since life at home was plenty suffocating for her.

Those letters proved that there was at least someone who cared about her. However, a point came where she stopped receiving letters from her, which made her question whether something had happened to her. When she had asked one of the maids about Juri, they would tell her that maybe things over there had gotten busy and that she would undoubtedly send another letter when things calmed down. That time never came, and before she knew it, Komugi was seeing her sister for the first time in years during the summer vacation of her second year in high school. Her whole family had gone to Tokyo to spend leisure time catching up with Juri, as she was the favourite pick. When she saw Juri, Komugi's smile faded once she saw the man next to her. She was told that the man would be a part of the family as he was Juri's fiance. Komugi was incredibly wary of him because, through the whole dinner, the man's eyes were fixed on her and not Juri.

When Komugi had stepped out for some fresh air right before the waiter brought the bill, he followed her out. He attempted to get along with her, even affectionately calling her "Mugi", which rubbed her the wrong way, ending in him getting a punch from her when he put his arm around her waist. To her shock, he laughed and told her she was a completely different breed from her sister, who was meek and submissive. At the same time, Komugi would bark and bite, dehumanising them as he compared them to dogs, and his ending statement of wishing that Komugi was the older sibling because she was amusing left her in complete disgust.

When the two went back inside, Juri showed concern towards his bruised cheek, and he brushed it off by telling her that he tripped and fell. Watching her sister affectionately caress his cheek formed a knot in her stomach because she could tell with one glance that she was in love with him but his interest lay elsewhere. The reunion that Komugi had initially hoped for was ruined, placing yet another strain on their relationship. However, Komugi could interact with her sister normally outside his presence; she hid what happened in her encounter with him because she did not want to be distant from Juri again.

Shinsuke Kita

Komugi noticed Shinsuke during their first year when he "stole" the top spot from her after their midterms and recognized him as the person who passed the entrance exam with the highest score. She initially disliked him because he performed better than her. This was heavily one-sided on her part since he didn't pay attention to it as something important. The two of them only met in the corridors and would only silently greet each other with nods and head bows. Kita's diligence and commitment made her call him "Mr. Perfect" when she saw him. He didn't mind the nickname, possibly because he was one of the only people she treated indifferently.

As a top student, she was more or less forced to do things with him, and her general view of him was that he was "an okay person". During their third year, Shinsuke took notice of the different ways she treated people and called her out on it, which made her ponder on his words. The two ended up being friends after he took her home with him when he spotted her crouched outside the gymnasium despite the rainy weather, and she held onto his sleeve, telling him that she didn't want to go home.

His grandmother took her sudden visit the wrong way (he brought his girlfriend home to introduce Komugi to her, which was cleared up later). Still, she treated her sweetly, making Komugi realize how much she wanted to be treated like a person and be praised by someone older than her. She grew a liking towards his grandma and realized that the person Shinsuke grew up to be was all thanks to her, who ensured he grew up being loved. Since then, Komugi would go with Shinsuke to meet his grandma and speak to her.

Michinari Akagi

Akagi is probably her only male classmate who didn't refer to her as a princess; instead, he called her by her last name, which was the only time he ever got to speak with her. Aran slightly brushes on that he finds her incredibly pretty but is afraid to talk to her because of her intimidating demeanour and would tense up when she looks in his direction. After he sees her smile for the first time after the match against Karasuno, he speaks to her for a brief moment, and the two end up being acquaintances (he was shocked when she said that she didn't know they were in the same class for all three years of high school).

Atsumu and Osamu Miya

If the two of them weren't a part of the volleyball club, there was a high chance that Komugi wouldn't even give them a second of her attention. She first noticed them because "one looks like the copy-paste of the other". Nevertheless, she was able to differentiate the two with just one glance. Their dumb antics and fights didn't go unnoticed by her, and they were mostly the cause of her stress during the times they had to cheer for the club, almost feeling sorry for Shinsuke and the rest for having to deal with them regularly.

After an incident where she had enough of their idiocy and drop-kicked Atsumu to the floor, the twins have since been afraid of her. How could she hold so much power in such a tiny body? One look is all it takes for them to stop and freeze up. After the match against Karasuno and when everyone saw her smile genuinely, Komugi gave head pats to all her juniors. Starting with the twins, they immediately listened to her and bent down; when she reached her hands out to them, they squeezed their eyes shut but were surprised by her ruffling their hair and telling them they did well while smiling instead of berating them for their failure (Osamu was left in a state of shock while Atsumu's soul left his body).

Katsuro Haiiro (oc by @ nnafiyu)

Komugi and Katsuro first met in the school's library when he spotted her having difficulty reaching for a book on a shelf she could not reach. He found the sight amusing and decided to help out. He easily took the book she was reaching for off the shelf and handed it to her. She gives him an up-down look and gets pissed at the fact that he's probably younger than her (since she doesn't remember someone like him in the third year) and so much taller.

Naoki Chikage

Komugi and Naoki met when she started working at Minagawa Law firm, where she was placed under his care as a paralegal. She didn't have much of an opinion of him at first; the only two things she possibly ever commented on were that he was a good teacher and that she liked his scent.

She found him strange since he would mostly show up to work with a bedhead and had a weird taste in socks. The first time he ever left some sought of an impression on her was when she had gotten the documents mixed up with a different case, and he never scolded her for making a mistake; instead, he patted her on her head and told her that it was alright, she was still getting accustomed to her role there, and mistakes were bound to happen sooner or later while smiling at her. She found his smile (which she initially thought of as annoying) refreshing, like a breath of fresh air. Luckily, her mishap earlier didn't cause any problems because Naoki had the missing documents with him; he had seen the files on his desk before leaving.

After that incident, Komugi saw him in a more positive light, as someone reliable.

what if... Naoki is actually in love with Komugi?? (haha unless? he actually is)
