Mahoney, best known by her mercenary title "Mahoney of Heather", is a quietly known gladium mesmer, who has bounced between many jobs over the years and has struggled to find a place to call her own.
She has briefly: studied under the Priory, delivered for the Black Lion Trading Company, performed guard duty at the Blood and Black Citadel, protected shepherds, and been a part of the Crystal Bloom. None of these lasted longer than a few years or so. She typically keeps her large nose out of criminal dealigs, but has had one or two brushes with asura Plexa Ippus, and has a small profit of insurance fraud payouts to show for it.
She treats situations with little more thought than to brute-force through and lick her wounds later, not typically worrying about the people in her way. While she is unquestionably strong and a boon to have on one's side, she is none too eager to settle down and shoot the shit with potential friends or allies. While she craves a place to belong, she's never keen to take the time to find out where that could be.
Trivia
- Her mesmer copies are tinted orange-pink, and have always had wispy, smoke-like tail tips
- Mahoney is bisexual without a gender preference
- She is half-Flame through her sire, Othello
- While Plexa originally pointed out Mahoney may need glasses in her late twenties, she only decided many years later to let her mate Sylvatica make her a pair

Guild Wars 2 Alternate Events (1325-1335 AE)
1332 AE - Mahoney and Soup trade blows in the Grotto at Thunderhead Peak after the presumed death of Aurene at the hands of Kralkatorrik. This altercation leads to Soup's bottom left horn breaking off, and Mahoney gaining a scar across the bridge of her nose. That fight is the closest the two ever truly come to killing each other.
A change in her mesmer powers occurs. They are smokey and unstable, and lash out violently at Mahoney upon their creation. She stops creating them, now feeling more alone than ever.
Afterwards, she sojourns to the Crystal Desert to do some soul-searching. It initially isn't as enlightening as she hopes it would be, but while there, falls off a skiff into the ocean and washes up in the Sandswept Isles.
She is taken in and nursed back to health by two villagers, Sylvatica and Ilex, whom eventually express interest in Mahoney and invite her to join them in a polyamorous relationship. Mahoney is taken aback, and unsure how to express herself, leaves the village on her skimmer and plans to not look back.
She meets with new Flame Imperator Efram Greetsglory and joins the legion under the Doom warband, led by a terrifying former-close-Gaheron-associate, Envo Doomflame.
1333 AE - Mahoney works to readjust back to life in a warband after being a gladium for so many years. Envo, while an intimidating figure, turns out to be a repentant, admirable figure. He tutors her to the best of his abilities to try and reclaim her control of her Mesmer copies, which stop smoking and begin losing their shape ever further, turning into silhouettes of flame.
At one point, she asks him vaguely if it's possible for her to be forgiven for something terrible she'd done, despite many years of denying fault, and her new Legionnaire simply advises her that she shouldn't be seeking that now, but attempt repentance until she's earned the right to even be forgiven.
She and the Doom warband are not called on for duty in Drizzlewood Coast, and instead are posted in Grothmar Valley to continue advocating. They are among first on the scene when dragon minions begin appearing en masse in Ascalon.
Given their proximity, they are summoned by Efram on his mission to try and save the remaining older-era Flame Legion charr. They arrive and find their Imperator accompanied by the Commander. While tensions are high, visible, and uncomfortable, they are able to continue their mission.
Mahoney actually covers Pulmenti mid-fight against many strong destroyers, a favor that doesn't go returned until she is nearly knocked over a cliffside by Champion Braham. Soup grabs her wrist does save her then. After the fight has resolved, there is no formal apology exchanged, only looks of vague understanding.
1334 AE - Mahoney and the Doom warband are involved in the final battle of Jormag vs Primordius. She takes a few hits and ends up hospitalized, and to her shock, is briefly visited by Soup. They don't speak long, but Soup leaves her a bottle of warm bone broth and a wish that she'll get well soon, and tells her she hopes she's finally somewhere she belongs.
Mahoney unfortunately doesn't feel like she is, and longs to return to Sylvatica, Ilex, and the Olmakhan. She follows that longing and tells her legionnaire Envo her plan, and while she's initially terrified of disapproval, receives a clap on the shoulder and a small smile as he tells her "I've never been prouder to tell a charr to get the hell out of my warband".
She returns to the Althoma and receives a warm welcome back from Ilex but some initial hesitance from Sylvie. Taking Envo's advice to heart, she works hard to regain her faith and trust in order to finally apologize, and while Sylvie appreciates her efforts, admits all she wanted was to have her back.
At that point, Mahoney officially accepts their invitation to their polyamorous relationship. She lives and works in Althoma, continuing to struggle with her mesmer clones but finding her niche in the village for now as an Earthstalker.
Pulmenti Brittlejaw
[ half-sister / rival ]
A complicated relationship with a history of toxicity and begrudging tolerance. With time and work, some of the cracks have smoothed, but they have a ways to go before they are anywhere near comfortable in one another's presence.
Sylvatica
[ partner ]
This charr's unfettered extension of warmth to Mahoney in her time of need left a lasting impression of kindness, the likes of which she'd never before received. She'll have Sylvie's back until she's bones in the dirt.
Ilex
[ partner ]
His thoughtful demeanor and somewhat-timid personality didn't initially jive with Mahoney off the bat, but with time she grew to love and depend on his sensitivity.
Varius
[ friend ]
This little furball has somehow strangely endeared themselves to her via their unexpected valiance and propensity for ending up in trouble.
Dana
[ friend, neighbor ]
One of the handful of charr in Atholma who greeted her with an olive branch, though Mahoney wasn't initially convinced that peace offering isn't purely out of fear. With time, however (+ Sylvie and Ilex's help), they've bonded.
