Naivety

Coming from a sheltered upbringing in New York, it is little wonder he is unacquaintaned with the mores of the Neath. He came down under the belief his ambition would be achieved all in good fun, with little to no danger and even less unsavoury behaviour- except the kind that was more scandalous than suspicious and reserved for large flocks of well-to-do brash young men.

Morals

A rude awakening in New Newgate prison robbed him of that belief rather quickly. Needing to work to survive for the first time ever, he was forced to adopt a more practical approach to life- one that occasionally involves thievery or murder. They'll get better, he tells himself. A small mercy down here. Still, consistency, honour and trust are ideals he still believes in.

Seeking

A whisper in the night. A gnawing hunger, an emptiness...
Maybe he could still stop. Maybe it's not too late. His destiny claims Authority, after all. But even though he doesn't know it yet, he's made the choice of retribution. He will bring a reckoning even if (while it) kills him.

About

came from america, looking for the vake. fell into spywork as a profession, enjoys it more than he expected. still almost a new arrival. generally lawful, except that means less in london than it did on the surface, and he's very much out of his depth. oh, well. also backed the cheery man. He misses the surface greatly. He'd only come down to London for the Vake- it wasn't in the plan to get so embroiled in it.

Before London

He was born to a wealthy family in New York, going through life with the belief that things would just inherently work out for him. He'd thrown in his lot with many a band of upper-class rakes and ruffians, but had heard of the opportunities for adventure in the Neath and was entranced. The idea of the Vake, specifically, called to him. So he took what he had and he went below, but immediately got arrested in a case of identity fraud and lost all he'd brought with him.

Making a Living

He quickly found an affinity for finding things, whether it was information or code- which led him to become entangled with the Great Game. It makes him feel like he's contributing to the world above in some meaningful way.
This also allowed him a greater understanding of the threads tying London together, the webs of intrigue and circumstance that, down here, always seem to lead to ruin. He sees how he himself is bound to the city, for greater or worse. The melancholy of this realization made him liken himself more to the Tomb-Colonists.

Tomb-Colonies

He died for the first time in candle-flame- more specifically, a great many candles. The last foolish hope of returning to the Surface left him, with clarity flooding in. He would never again see the sun, forever chained to this underground prison of a sort. Or he would consume and be consumed by the gnawing hunger in his dreams.
