Profile
[ if you draw them, please draw them with short hair! Thank you!! ]
Poppy Stuart is an Ensign under Starfleet. They are a scientist, working specifically in biology. They are from the rogue planet Popukonia populated with clones. Poppy is one of these clones, known now to Starfleet as Popukonians. They are the only Popukonian to both attend and graduate Starfleet Academy. They're still adjusting to life outside of Popukonia, but they are very bubbly and they always have something to smile about.
They exist in every Star Trek series because each version of them exists in a separate universe. The only sort of series lineage they have is their primary timeline: TNG -> TNG movies -> Picard and their original timeline: TOS -> TOS movies but the other series versions of them exist within their respective universes.
- energetic

- dances, especially raves
- being touched/cuddled/held
- plants
- Poppy has a rave in the holodeck that they go to almost every day to let out their energy.
- In their DS9 continuity, they spend some of their off-time helping Keiko out with her botany.
- Whenever the ship is near their home planet, they ask the captain if they can visit their family or bring some of them aboard the ship. Silly chaos ensues swiftly after permission is granted.
- Poppy is a “forever Ensign.“
- They only have a last name because they thought it would be nice. Everyone calls them Ensign Poppy instead of Ensign Stuart because Ensign Poppy is technically the correct way.
- The character of Poppy was created on October 1st, 2018.
- The reason their left eye is star-shaped is because when they were getting their prosthetic implant installed, they specifically asked if their pupil could be a star. It’s their implant, after all!
- All the rest of the clones idolize Poppy for their space career, so once Poppy came out to them as nonbinary, all the clones began to question their gender as well, ending up with varied results.
- For every single Star Trek series that I've seen, a version of Poppy exists within it! (And then some!)
- The ship name for Poppy and Riker is Popiker.
- The first Popiker drawing was on January 17th, 2019.
- The original plot for the Poppy and Billups ship was actually gonna be that Billups found a stray Popukonian clone on the Cerritos, but I ended up scrapping that idea because I wanted to ship him with Poppy themselves + it's easier to write the backstory if it's Poppy's.
- Cyborg: Poppy has a cybernetic implant spanning the whole top left portion of their face, including their eye and part of their brain. This implant lets them perform mathematic calculations instantly, zoom into things with their cybernetic eye, and gives them a computer-like memory.
- Desperately Craves Affection: On Popukonia, physical affection is extremely typical and is how the clones show each other that they care, but Poppy can't do that in the professional setting of a Starfleet ship. Because of this, if they're not already in a romantic relationship with someone, they get really nervous about asking for something like a hug.
- Duplicate Divergence: Over the span of their many years being off of their home planet, they have had a lot of character growth and are now different from their original clone counterparts.
- Gender-Blender Name: When Poppy began their nonbinary gender transition, they chose the name Poppy, which is still a more commonly feminine associated name.
- Grotesque Cute: In the timeline where they join Section 31, Poppy carries out various morbid orders, sometimes even including murder, but they still keep their peppiness just the same.
- I Just Want to Be Loved: Poppy falls in love extremely easily, and they thrive off of praise and affection. This is all in addition to the fact that they feel very pressured because they're the only Popukonian who has joined Starfleet, so they want to be a good representative for their home planet.
- The Cutie: Poppy's main attributes are their optimism, innocence, and affectionateness, which makes them very cutesy.

The original Poppy went by another name, and they were a girl the apprentice of a scientist who retired from Starfleet. This scientist took them in a shuttle and the two of them set out in search of a rogue planet that they could conduct some geographical and biological experiments on while also having a place to live. The scientist had also created a cloning machine so they wouldn’t run out of the supplies they brought, like food and toiletries.
Whilst on this flight, the two of them underestimated how small the planet they were heading towards was, and the shuttle got swept into the planet’s atmosphere. They lost control of the shuttle since it was being pulled down so rapidly. They had a rough crash landing, and the scientist didn’t make it out alive.
This resulted in the original Poppy being stranded on this planet with an unflyable shuttle. The cloning machine still worked though, so they lived in the wreckage for months, using their time to explore the foreign terrain. As the months passed, the greater their existential crisis became. They began to wonder if the cloning machine could clone people...? They had nothing to lose.
The experiment was a success! Now there were two people! They figured that since they have this whole planet to themselves, why not create a whole colony? So enough clones were made to populate the planet as a small colony, and the planet was dubbed Popukonia. Over time, Popukonia formed its own mini culture based on the shared interests of the clones, and the original clone became the unofficial ruler, known to the clones as the primary clone. (No rule is necessary over the clones, it's just a really casual thing. Sometimes the clones come to them for advice or to settle little disputes.) The clones are exactly the same as the original, intelligence and all, just without the original's memories.
[ From here on out, this story changes depending on the Star Trek show! Their primary timeline takes place in The Next Generation, so that is what will be described here. The landing party and starship can be replaced for each series. ]
Poppy is a clone just like any other. The U.S.S. Enterprise-D is on its continuing mission to "seek out new life and new civilizations" when it detects the presence of a planet through its sensors, despite a planet not existing there on any star charts. The ship also sensed life forms on the planet, so Picard sent down an away team consisting of Riker, Worf, and Data to investigate.
When the three of them beam down to Popukonia, they are greeted to a whole planet of identical 5'2 girls, and the clones are greeted to something completely and entirely foreign to them: other people. The clones have never seen anything like them in their entire lives, so they flock to the away team, doing things like asking questions, wondering why they're tall, and trying to touch their hands and their hair. The primary clone notices all the hubbub and introduces themselves, telling the away team about their planet and its origins as well as answering any other questions they have.
The primary clone offers them accomodations, and the away team spends the next few days being dragged around by all the clones, eating snacks, being dressed up, and generally being the complete center of attention. It was very fun for both parties!
So the away team maps Popukonia in Starfleet's star charts, and they restore the comlink in the crashed shuttle in case they ever need to communicate to the Enterprise-D or to Starfleet. Then they inform the clones that they have to leave, which results in a giant goodbye cuddle pile (that only Riker really appreciates.)
But just before they beam up, one of the shyer clones approaches them and wonders if they can come with them and if there’s anything they can do to become like them. They explain that they’re tired of just being “one of the clones” were brave enough to actually reach out to this opportunity to do something with their life.
The team felt it would be wrong to deny this, so they let them board passage onto the Enterprise, and they said goodbye to their clone family as they started their new life. They stayed on the Enterprise until it was able to reach Earth, where they were dropped off to live and attend Starfleet Academy.
During their life at the Academy, they had a mean injury after they dripped and fell, busting their head on the hard floor. They were close to death until they got a cybernetic implant, the part of their brain that got damaged being replaced by technology that enhanced their memory and allowed them to perform mathematic calculations instantly. While they were getting their artificial eye installed, they figured that since on the outside it's just a display to seem more natural, that the pupil could be anything. They asked the engineers working on them if they could make their right pupil a star instead of simply replicating their left pupil. They figured there was no problem with this, and it was their choice, so they gave Poppy their star eye.
After graduating, Poppy was quick to make their way back to the Enterprise-D, Riker putting in a good word for them to increase their chances of getting assigned there. They became an ensign in the sciences division, and now live their life on the Enterprise. By now, Poppy had also figured out that they don't identify with the gender that was assigned to them. Every now and then, they check in with their clone family using the comlink that the away team had installed on Popukonia's crashed ship years ago.
