Because of his experience and allegiance he's a well respected vizier who promises to help lead his clan to glory by advising the alpha and honoring their decisions, yet he follows his own interests, ruling the kingdom underhandedly himself. As a god-fearing Kumba, only a message or sign of the deities could make him see the error in his ways and get Balthazar to cease his constant strive for power.
