Name: Kore Soteira
Age: Mid 50s.
Gender: Cis Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Height: 5'10"
Species: Maormer
Occupation: Privateer; Entertainer
Personality: Calm, cool, and calculating. The Mer had a tongue as sharp as her wit, though it more often wagged in a friendly manner. Suspicious of the intentions of strangers, she often deployed this wit in the form of humor to disarm, or to put at ease, those she came into contact with. It is because of this that she was nicknamed "The Laughing Fish" by the patrons that frequented the Hew's Mane.
Skills: A former captain of the Pyandonean Royal Marines, Kore employs the skills she has gained under the tutelage of some of Nirn's finest mariners for those with the coin to pay. Living her life by skipping around the thin, gray line of morality has lead to many of these jobs being not strictly legal. From smuggling and human trafficking to transport and pleasure cruises: if the gold was good, Kore would take the helm. It is when she has no ship to sail that she engages in her other, more sensual skills to put bread on the table.

Born and raised in Pyandonea, Kore was enlisted into the Royal Maritime Academy at an early age. It was a normal life for any young Maormer: Spending the day training in the sand and surf with nights spent burning through a dozen candles to illuminate tomes on navigation, history, and the arcane. Graduating with honors, she readily accepted a position within the fleet. It was a position she would enjoy for just over a decade.
It was on a return trip to the mainland that she received word that she would be relieved of her position. Distraught and confused, it was only the promise of being part of "prestigious Project Leviathan", as the document informed, that kept the former captain from protesting this mysterious promotion. It did little to settle her nerves, and for years on would she wish she had put up more of a fight.
Kore would learn just what Project Leviathan was: torture. Her very being was being altered, and with each administration of "treatment" did she feel her very person begin to cower away from the savage animal that had been laid within her. However, there is something about savage animals. When cornered, and afraid, even the most well trained senche will turn on their captors. So too did Kore turn on the magus administering her daily treatment.
There is not much to tell of her escape. Let alone the months spent out in the open sea. She would be hard pressed to recall the events herself, as strung out on adrenaline and rage as she was. There was a certain peace, however, in feeling at home within the waves that soothed this new beast she shared her flesh with. Though, it did not satisfy the noble blood that still ran hot in her veins. She did not want to live like an animal. She had to find somewhere to call home.
For three years she moved from port to port along the southern shores of Tamriel, paying her way with pick-pocketed gold and sexual favors. It was a real change from being the respected, noble Captain to a thieving whore, but there was little else for a Maormer to do on this side of Nirn. As she moved south on the shores of Valenwood, she had a passing fancy to see the sights of Auridon. Kore valued her head more than fulfilling her curiosity.
It was fortuitous then that she would be invited to sail with a merchants crew to Hew's Bane. Being back on the deck of a ship filled her with desire, and a sense of purpose burned within her chest. Somehow, this mer was going to acquire her own ship again. This quest began as soon as the vessel docked in the harbor, and Kore set about looking for work. It would come to no ones surprise that very few establishments were hiring a woman with no references or name to speak on. That is, except as a dancer for a local pub. Though she was never properly trained, the novelty of her lineage was enough to fill the tab while her feet picked up the trade. Ends were met in music filled air and in the back rooms of inns. It did not matter to Kore so long as she had gold left over to stow away as she gazed out longingly at the ships in port.
