Ackolids are already regarded as rare and lucky creatures, enough so that they'll be kept as lucky charms. To find a female ackolid at the highest stage they can go, who's been gifted with bio-luminescence atypical to her species, well, that's nearly legendarily lucky.
Myrtle was already shamed and exiled from her own society for daring to break gender norms, being snapped up into a cage and goggled at like a circus oddity didn't make it any better. Her entire species isn't considered to deserve rights. So why should she be the exception? She was tiny, she was weak, she was fragile. What could she do? Nothing, that's what. She was so resigned to live the rest of her miserable life as a lucky keychain that she hardly considered the possibility of escape. It was only ever a fantasy, never reality. It was when a contractor by the name of Mr. Stings came by and promised they could figure out a deal, Mrytle finally considered that she didn't have to live like this. He spoke to her kindly, like she was a person. Mrytle told him that all she wanted was to never have to live in a cage again. Mr. Stings smiled, and he granted her wish.
Now, she follows him around like a dog on a leash, hiding behind his coattails at the first sign of danger. There's no one she trusts more than Mr. Stings and no one more she probably shouldn't.
