Maxine is a very off-putting individual. Because others around her do not know how to handle her, they consider her a problem that they hope will resolve itself. However, rather than mature as she has grown older, Maxine has grown more rebellious and developed an even stronger disregard for all things proper and an even deeper love for all things detestable. True to her alligator roots, Maxine is a sadist and enjoys the prospect of eating someone. Unfortunately, due to her unpleasant personality, she is never fortunate enough to get close enough to someone that she could eat them. The only person who she has a close relationship with is Squid, a demon who has made it his personal mission in life to antagonize her. Maxine often considers eating Squid because she would enjoy watching him squirm and suffer, but she reminds herself that if she were to put an end to her greatest annoyance, she would be rather bored by the lack of banter. She enjoys getting into arguments with Squid and will often go out of her way to anger him when he is being a pest. The dynamic of Maxine and Squid's relationship is interesting; despite the fact that they claim to hate one another, they have developed an interdependence on one another. Without each other, each of their lives would become rather dull.
Maxine is extremely sarcastic and can be a bit crude in her speech. She lacks an acceptable filter and would rather say what is on her mind and deal with the consequences than restrain herself. She loves discourse and will often seek it out, even reading up on topics that she is not very knowledgeable about just so that she can chime into an argument with a controversial opinion. She takes a lot of pleasure in bringing trouble to others. Maxine's personality is extremely repellent; weaker personalities are often overwhelmed by her presence and find her intimidating. It is very difficult to spend time with Maxine, as she is constantly plotting how to take a decent chunk out of her companion's arm.
Maxine has an obnoxious laugh that can be heard from several rooms down. Her laugh is so distinctive that, by listening closely, one can often determine the cause of her laughter. Her laughter is often caused by others' pain, and this cackling is the loudest and most repugnant. She has a hard time taking anything seriously and can be infuriating to have an important conversation with.
Maxine's favorite hobby is chasing ghosts around and trying to take their pictures. Ghosts are the only individuals that Maxine seems to befriend with ease. She has a level of respect for them that she lacks for other beings, and she loves the concept of restless spirits. She secretly hopes that her ghoulish friends are never able to find peace for their souls, not only because she enjoys others' suffering, but also because she fears being left without their company. The ghosts that Maxine has befriended will gladly pose for her photography, but unfortunately, the pictures never turn out quite as expected. Maxine also loves zombies and sometimes wishes that she were one. Perhaps then it would be more socially acceptable to consume her companions.
