PERSONALITY

Between the rough, ragged scarring and a Titan's armored physique, Al tends to cut a pretty imposing figure--a first impression that couldn't possibly be further from the truth. Warm, friendly and compassionate, Al tries to be a friend to everyone and often gets upset if he learns someone is afraid of or intimidated by him. Even when he probably shouldn't, he tries to see good in people, liable to give second chances where they might not be warranted. When he cares about someone, he cares very deeply, and can sometimes be overwhelming in his enthusiasm.

Al is very difficult to move or bend, in both a figurative and literal sense, which can be something of a double-edged sword--he's unyielding, steadfast in his convictions and refuses to sway from what he feels is the 'right' path, but his stubbornness and difficulty adapting to rapid change sometimes leaves him floundering or trailing behind. He's resilient and resourceful enough to make his own way when he needs to, but coupled with his tendency to bottle up his feelings, he sometimes makes things more difficult for himself than they need to be. He wants to be an anchor for others, not to drag them down with him, but to keep them steady and grounded, and he struggles to reconcile that with his own needs.

MISC

  • Al is entirely blind on his right side. He's learned to compensate for it, but between his Ghost and his teammates, he luckily doesn't often need to fully rely on himself.

  • Unlike his partners, Al has thus far resisted the temptation to take up using the Darkness' power. He doesn't begrudge them, or any other Stasis-wielding Guardians, their decision, but he's made his stance clear that he refuses to follow them down that path.

  • He has no idea where the name 'Albatross' comes from. Basically everyone just calls him Al unless it's a formal setting, or he's in Troubleā„¢.

  • Very much enjoys birdwatching, and is very knowledgeable about birds in general. Yes, he also thinks it's a funny hobby for him to have, considering his name.

STORY

this is old and needs to be expanded on but it still works!!!!!

Albatross has been around for quite a while, and despite participating in major battles and doing more than his fair share in the defense of humanity, had never really made a name for himself. Greatness and accolades hold little interest for him; no matter how many years pass, Al's main focus has been and continues to be doing his best to protect both his Guardian allies and the people of the City. Toeing the line between being forgettable and being a steady, dependable fixture in the Vanguard, he was always ready, willing and able to do what he was needed for without expecting or wanting much in return.

After meeting Sorrel and in the aftermath of the Red War, however, he found himself being dragged more or less front and center. Being practically joined at the hip with The Guardian and aiding him in the vast majority of his adventures and victories saw him recieving more recogniztion than he had in practically his entire life. It was a dramatic change of pace, but he adjusted well and came to enjoy the new opportunities afforded to him. Outside of his duties, and generally preferring to be in the field and on the front lines, he became something of a mentor not only to new Titans, but Guardians of all stripes.

As years passed and the people and situations around him changed, Albatross remained steady and reliable, proud as ever of his ability to be a rock for others in tumultuous times.

Following the events of Beyond Light, however, cracks have started to show themselves. Newfound knowledge of Clovis Bray's work and the nature of Exos troubled Albatross much more deeply than he wanted to admit, exacerbating struggles he already had with his existence and identity. Sorrel and Faron straying into Darkness and refusing to listen to his concerns with regards to using its power only made things worse, even going as far as to prompt him to take a break from their relationship altogether. While he has since returned and reconciled with them, trying to trust they know what they're doing, things haven't quite been the same since since--hardly helped by the revolving door of crises the three are thrown into time after time.

DYNAMIC

Blow for blow, Babs matches her partner's bold enthusiasm without missing even half a step. She actively encourages and sometimes even participates in Al's bold maneuvers, as she believes that even if a plan is terrible, it's best to work together no matter what.

To the unknowing, it's often hard to believe that Babs has such a penchant for the kinds of ill-advised adventures she and Al get up to; she has a kind, caring, almost grandmother-ly attitude with not only her Guardian, but with most everybody else that comes within her line of sight. If she had hands, she'd probably be pinching people's cheeks. The two of them combined can be a bit of a menace in their enthusiasm for their friends and loved ones.
