Enzo Was created in a laboratory, meant to be the first artificial human being. For about five years, Journalist/psychologist (and his best friend) Atticus spent time developing his personality with him, by interviewing him daily. Upon leaving the facility/laboratory, he moved in with Atticus, who had recently found a better job elsewhere, and became a engineer, doing writing on the side.
