  • Cool-headed and calculating
  • Sort of a "only the strong will survive" type when it comes to Death Watch values and raising a family
  • Doesn't get too terribly attached to people
  • Came from a relatively wealthy Chiss family.  Attacked by Death Watch Mandalorians when she was about nine or ten; the family tried to get away, then take a stand until most of them were gunned down.  It was only Velean and her mother left when the Mandalorians cornered them.  She took the blaster from her mother and shot her, thinking that if she sided with Death Watch, they might spare her.  This impressed the clan enough to take her in.  Velean eventually began to view her biological family as weak and deserving of their fate.
  • She's the one who leaned into the idea of "culling" the weak Sharn children from the strong ones by tossing them into situations where they would have to prove that they were better than the rest--most often this involved extremely lethal circumstances.
  • Sees people as stepping stones to her goals.
  • Believed Death Watch could do better and that they are being held back by hiring themselves out as mercenaries and such, especially to the Empire.  She is under the opinion  that they ought to ba’slan shev’la and attack the Empire when it shows signs of fracturing.
Was training up one of her sons--a Shi'ido boy--to be the lieutenant to the leader of Death Watch.  Velean's main goal was that he would get into the Lorka Gedyc's good graces before assassinating him and using his shapeshifting to take his place and continue to "lead" Death Watch while she acted as the puppetmaster.  Those plans get shot to haran after she sent her son to kill Corvan (more as a test of loyalties as the two brothers were close, and to get rid of a thorn in her side), and he instead was killed.  Velean was disappointed that he wasn't able to hold his own, and even more enraged that she wouldn't be able to smoothly perform her coup.
