Proteus

”You know why dogs were the first in space? It, uh, it cost less to train us.”

Proteus is a cosmonaut education and evaluation manager at Tsiolkovsky's Space Dogs Administration (TSDA)'s Jupiter-Facing division on Mars. He was first picked up by TSDA when he showed great promise at school but wasn't being taken seriously due to his demeanor and general lack of respect toward authority. He fit perfectly into his job because of his calm and empathetic nature.
When the administration allows it, he is able to partake in field missions to various heavenly bodies but is mainly regulated to Neptune's moons and finding exoplanets.
Proteus’ last name comes from the first cosmonaut in space, a street dog named Laika. She shares my birthday, which is why I used her instead of Belka or Strelka.
Birthday is on November 3rd.
