Appearance

At five foot nothing, Asher is hardly the most intimidating figure; for a man, he’s downright tiny. He’s built slender, too, earning the nickname ‘China Doll’ (he hates it, by the way) from more than one person throughout the years. Skinny would be a more accurate way to describe him. His hair is naturally a deep, dark shade of auburn-red, with lighter highlights, although he often dyes it different colors to entertain himself; it’s long, falling just past his shoulders to the middle of his arms, and is usually worn tied back in some fashion. Asher has blue-green eyes, aquatic in color, though the right one turns scarlet when he’s angry. His ears are pierced in the lobe and he has a labret piercing.

He possesses three wings, all of which are feathered and black. They’re unbalanced, the middle one being too large, and he can’t fly as a result. He also has a tail that is the length of one of his legs, but is thin and whippy, with a wedge at the end. The tip of it isn't sharp, but because it's so thin, his tail can do damage when he moves it quickly. It is completely prehensile and also an effective mood gauge. Lashing tail means avoid avoid avoid.

Typically, Asher tends to be ‘gender-fluid’ in how he identifies, and so it’s not unusual to see him wear women’s clothes, or men’s, or use female pronouns, or men’s, he has no strong preference to any which one. He wears an enormous amount of jewelry and often favors dark colors, or colors that make his eyes pop out. His favorite color may be red, but Asher almost never wears red when his hair is his natural color (but if it’s dyed, you bet it’s on the list). He likes shoes with heels because he’s short~

Personality

In general, this deva is a relatively quiet and self-contained individual. It would be accurate to describe him as immaculately controlled under most circumstances. While it would be fair to say he has a temper (and a relatively bad one once he’s really gotten mad), Asher has a pretty long fuse, and he doesn’t say 2/3s of what goes through his mind. He’s exceedingly smart, and very observant; he usually spends most of his time quietly watching people rather than engaging in conversation. He often gives off the impression of being vain and perhaps a touch vapid; he tends to play down his intelligence where he can and he puts high emphasis on his appearance and the ways he maintains it (but this is less because of other people’s perception of him and more because of his own – enjoys pampering himself, he does). He has a strong, defined sense of right and wrong and tries to be good to people, or just ignore them.

With people he likes, Asher’s sassy-to-sarcastic, enjoying picking on them rather than traditional terms of endearment. Insults are common but rarely meant, and he’s very protective of people he’s decided he cares for. Usually it takes a very long time to get close to Asher, but he will do almost anything to keep the few people he lets in. He’s also a romantic and the best way to get close to Asher is through the traditional wine-and-dine routine; be sweet to him, considerate of his feelings and give him time and once he actually gets attached, it’s pretty much permanent. But good luck getting him to admit it. He’s way too proud to say his feelings often – so when he does, he means it~

Asher’s special talent is playing the violin and he is exceedingly gifted at doing so. He’s also capable of singing to a lesser extent and he can usually find his way around other stringed instruments, though not to the extent of the violin~

History

ancient history

Asher was born somewhere in Asia, well before the birth of Christ, to angel Seraphiel (principalities choir) and devil Asmodeus (lust legion). His mother served with Kiyoshi and was his superior - and Kiyoshi helped her hide her pregnancy. When Asher was born, Seraphiel was captured and executed. Kiyoshi gave him the name Asher - and Andras kept the name. The pair spent the rest of Andras's life on the run.

When Asher was a teenager, his father was assassinated by a group of angels targeting Asher (as a deva). Asher escaped and went into hiding, posing as a human witch.

The rest of his life would be characterized by running to survive. Neither angels, nor demons, were willing to suffer a half-breed to survive. This led to Asher being careful – exceedingly careful – to avoid forming close connections and also to hide what he is. Not the easiest task, since this deva has a tail…

recent past

Throughout the years, Asher ended up finding his solace in survival by education. He moved country-to-country, living in Europe for most of his life, before moving to Asia – first Shanghai, then Korea and finally Japan. Throughout his travels, he was educated in archaeology and history, then he studied linguistics, before finally moving to the medical field where he found his calling. Pediatrics was his first field, in Europe, before Psychology took over, and most recently, in Japan, trauma surgery. This was his true passion: saving people’s lives. Perhaps he was more of an angel than he wanted to admit?

She certainly thought so. Her name was Yui and she was a single mother and a nurse that worked with him – and despite all attempts not to, Asher ended up falling in love with both her and her daughter, Rin. He took care of Rin as if she was his own and the pair lived together for two years before an accident on an icy street cost Yui her life. Rin lived on in intensive care for two weeks after the accident before death finally took her, and the loss was devastating to him. Asher… fell apart. Went on a binge of not wanting to do much of anything. Leaving the house wasn’t an option. Nothing was. He just wanted to be alone. That misery and upset last him for over a year, before he finally began to move on and recover.

It was in that distressed, anti-the-world state that she found him – a female huntress who worked for the slave industry catching particularly ‘fascinating’ targets. A lust demon, she managed to use her powers to bespell Asher and, in the process, subdued him and took him to a local auction house to be sold. A deva over a few years old would fetch a hefty price in the industry – and that was what she was counting on.

present day

When going through inventory of slaves being sold, a man named Gil came across Asher’s name and, recognizing him as being worth far more than he’d fetch in Japan, he pulled some strings to contact a master who specialized in keeping rare and valuable slaves. The letter he sent was nothing more than ‘I found a deva named Asher’ – and that, it seemed, was enough. Asher was paid for without ever actually meeting the man who purchased him and he was sent overseas to America – blindfolded, gagged, bound and warding on his powers being re-added every hour for emphasis.

Not that he knew where he was going. He was told almost nothing – and that was intentional.
