A cunning conman of a bastard willing to ruin everybody’s life just for the sake of it. His biggest motive is just to be the eye of a hurricane as everyone else around him falls to pieces, and he certainly is good at that. He wears out easily and has the attention span of a child hyped up on caffeine, but he has the patience of a sloth, and when he’s focused on a task, he’ll see it through to the end. After all, the best chaos is well worth the wait. He masquerades as a serious Victorian-like personality, but he can truly be a wild bastard when he wants to. Growing up, Batik was a bit of a rambunctious kid, and maybe a bit too clever for his own good. A lot of his sucess growing up came from piggybacking off of other people and tricking the ones he couldn’t use to look the other way. There was a time when he wasn’t so manipulative, but he learned it from his environment and the people around, and he certainly learned well. His parents were high-ranking to begin with and he just catapulted himself up higher. When he grew older and got enough influence, he decided to become a traveling shopowner, somewhat of a moving pawnshop owner.
You often trust the things you’re being sold have no malicious intent behind them, but sometimes you’re not always that lucky. Batik is one of those cases. He would intentionally buy and sell cursed items specifically to hurt people. There wasn’t much of a reason to it despite just being chaotic and wreaking havoc. When he came across an artifact that allowed for one-time travel to another dimension, he took it immediately and used it without much of a second thought.
There’s a thing about his culture where when young people first learn to use their powers and abilities, they’re gifted a weapon that they can alter however they choose, it just has to stay lethal. It’s considered a high sign of respect to be able to defend yourself in danger, and the weapon is supposed to assist in that. His was initially a knife, but he used enchantments to make it so that it could morph into any bladed weapon he wanted to use. He called it Enigma and used it with pride and care.
Batik was eventually found out to be spreading cursed items to people and hurting households, not to mention him not aging for several decades. He was pursued for awhile and eventually killed by a group who got together specifically to kill supposed demons. He was one of their first pieces of real activity, and they were excited to finally do it, and thus it was somewhat... Horrific of a death. It was totally overkill, mostly a result from them not knowing how to kill a demon.
They attempted to destroy Enigma, but found that they couldn’t, so instead they tossed it away into a hidden pocket-dimension they found he was using to store things. It could only be opened by people from his bloodline, and since they didn’t think he had any kids, it was supposed to be the perfect plan. They were aware that Batik was likely possessing the weapon he was so close to beyond death, likely through one of the cursed items he had. Becoming one of the cursed items he spread around so carelessly. They were expecting that they could keep him trapped forever without anyone having anyway to get to him. That was the plan.
... It failed.
