Imagine if a wizard tower was a labyrinthine garden instead. Garden's caretaker, trapped into the role and hates it but also takes his job so, so seriously.
Probably your local treacherous apprentice thief cursed as punishment. Can't die; Old as the cautionary tale he is, but might have been a statue in the garden for some of that.
Used to be named Madys. Stubborn pride often got him in trouble. Still vain and still hasn't learned not to talk back to save his life, a low-born man who retains his strong interest in magic even now.
