Vera tends to strike folks as the quiet, strong, and dependable sort, and she is, mostly. Except that the quiet part is mostly due to the fact that, through something that might have been a curse and something that may have been an ill-advised attempt (or several) to fix it, she lost her voice. The good news is that Ace has it, sort of, and they've both adapted very well to their current circumstances.
