Rock is like his name. Strong, immovable, and solid. He hardly wavers and is generally quite quiet, but when he does speak, he is blunt and straightforward—like a seemingly brick wall revealing its rough edges. He's a four-tailed fox spirit.
Rock formed in the mountains and thus never really had contact with humans. He was in fact once the companion/friend/follower of a mountain goddess/fairy/immortal (xian), and they lived fine on their own. But the goddess seemed lonely, and one day when people came, Rock witnessed her fall in love. Unfortunately, this love story ended in tragedy, as the villagers used this human man to manipulate the goddess into allowing them to take over the mountain for construction. By trying to turn his home into something else, while he had once been curious, this display of greed and destruction caused him to fight back. This got him in trouble with more humans, and the goddess sacrificed herself to save him, her lover, and the mountain. Since losing his friend, he has been both independent and not a big fan of mankind, deciding to keep himself away from such mortal matters.
That does not mean, however, that he has no friends: for example, after having settling in China, he's made friends with a Tibetan sand fox who he teases for his funny appearance, but in his very flat, blunt tone.
Rock is symbolically connected to the Teumessian fox, a Greek myth of a giant fox who could never be caught, that eventually found itself being chased by a giant dog who could catch anything it chased, causing it and the dog to be turned into stone as they became the constellations Canis Major (Laelaps the dog) and Canis Minor (the Teumessian Fox).
He was designed as potentially a sand (maybe Rüppell’s) fox.
