Backstory (Brief): 

Joseph, or "Jo", was raised on a distant island where Mako was unnaturally high. Shinra Corp. was highly interested in this island due to its capabilities for power production, though the residences upon the island consistently prevent them from doing so. In one of these attempts, Reno and Rude are sent to scout the island for anything they can use to Shinra's advantage. This leads to the two of them discovering Joseph, who was attempting to escape the island by swimming through rough waters- and narrowly drowned had it not been for the two Turks. After being rescued and some acknowledgement that he could be a useful tool to finally getting the island under Shinra's control, Jo was taken in as a Turk. He's only really taken on a few smaller missions, being a newbie and all.

Due to the strange nature of the island and all of the Mako surrounding it, Jo often goes through withdrawal. To satisfy this, he often takes to snacking on Materia. Yum yum, crunch crunch. He also eventually rebels against the Turks and Shinra when the plate falls- running off and going AWOL. To satiate their addiction, they end up in Wall Market and working in the Honeybee Inn. He's surprisingly popular due to his red hair and the markings on his cheeks- which are a cosmetic side effect of the island's Mako energy.
