Ivan is a high school history teacher and volunteer first responder with a military background. He served as a field medic for several years before abruptly deciding he wasn't fit for the job. There's been talk about why he left the field, but his precise motivations have never been never talked about. The most he'll say on the matter is that he makes a bigger difference back at home, showing up at the scenes of car accidents and other tragedies to offer what help he can. At work, he's every student's favorite and probably shares a little more about his opinions than he needs to. He's careful to hide his criticisms of capitalism and the government behind "life advice" to his students, but it's safe to say he's not happy about the world they're going into.

Personality-wise, he's blunt and known to have a sarcastic streak. He's not shy to say what he means, but offending people isn't usually his goal. If anything, he's more soft than he'd like to admit and doesn't want to cause any more unnecessary harm. That being said, he won't beat around the bush with people who aren't doing what they're supposed to. He has high expectations and wants to believe in the best of people more than anything else.
