look. he's just trying to get by. and if he has to take your stuff to appease the bear over his shoulder, then that's what's up. get some world of warcraft homeowners insurance or something

• heavily magically augmented. the runes cut into the length of his body used to function as a sort of stabilizing network and ambient mana siphon, enabling him to channel enormous torrents of arcane energy that would have otherwise been impossible for his body to bear, given his youth. now, as a result of the red dragon experimentation he only narrowly survived, the runes drain magic from anything and channel it anywhere--including into and out of his own flesh.
• which means his baseline existence is, uh, decently uncomfortable! if he uses magic aggressively, or in large quantities, the pain is increased exponentially. he can't harm others with it without also harming himself. worse, sometimes, depending on how he shapes the magic.
  • he has draining enchantments on his weapons that help temporarily ease some of this discomfort.
• SO, having gotten war crimed by the red dragonflight and not SUPER keen on repeating the experience, he's been hiding in mortal form more-or-less ever since. taking odd jobs in exchange for protection. feeling alienated from his flight and his body as it grows without him feeling the changes. stewing in his own trauma.

• always wears close-fitting clothing. it's a holdover from his first few months in mortal form, when he used to get distracted by the feeling of loose fabric shifting and jostling. (this is also why he keeps his hair tied up!) he's more used to his mortal form than his natural body by now, but old habits die hard, and he finds the pressure soothing.
  
• he can't shift his runes away, but luckily, runic tattoos are far from unheard of among blood elves, and even less so now that the nightborne have joined the horde.
