Darya was born in Russia, but because Russia is very unaccepting of homosexuality, he always felt like an outcast. His father especially did not treat him kindly, and his mother was never around. Eventually, he formed a friendship online with a Swedish powerlifter named Thyra. Their relationship developed very well over several years, and they became the best of friends. After four years of friendship, Thyra was moving into a new place and invited Darya to join her. Initially, he was shocked beyond belief that she would ask him, but she assured him that she would love to have him live with her. So Darya went through the entire process of emigrating to live with Thyra and escape Russia. Once there, he changed his last name to Trygg and began intensely working out with Thyra.
