Tomo

Tomo is a wandering traveler, cheerfully drinking and telling fantastical stories as they go. Catching alongside other explorers, they are always ready for an adventure. Though they are not the most sophisticated, behind their silly strides lie mountains of history.

Tanuki within the lush woodlands of Kitakami are known as messengers of deities and spirits, delivering those regards to humanoids who have caught their eye. Tomo was one of those couriers and one of the most mischievous. Alongside finishing their job, they also enjoyed leaving behind a form of prank to remember. The reputation of the shapeshifting tanuki spread amongst the locals and beyond the nation.

As centuries passed, the gods of the region started to become a lost history. Times change, divinities come and go, and humanity's beliefs adapt to new eras. Alongside the subsiding faith in the spirits within the country, industrialization has started to invade the forest, reducing it to a bare state. Having to relocate and dwell within the remains of their home, the remaining tanuki must choose between two choices: continue to send the beckonings of a dying deity or leave the woods altogether and adapt to the new era. Though split on these choices, many decided to stay to show their loyalty to the forest. Tomo, becoming disgruntled by the dwindling state of the territory, was one of the few who left. They did not want to watch their home and purpose fade in front of them. To prevent not only the tales of the forest but their people from being forgotten over time, they travel around the continent, delivering stories and aimlessly partying wherever they go. Rumors of a short, foolish individual with a jolly and drunken demeanor have spread through town after town.

Tomo is someone who faces obstacles with a grin. Some would say that it’s dignity, but others can remark that it’s mostly idiocy. However, even with their proud and seemingly happy demeanor, they do not enjoy becoming personal with mortals. When an encounter becomes too confrontational to their past, fleeing or evading it is their foremost instinct. Running away from their problems has become second nature to them. Regardless of their issues, Tomo is mostly harmless.
