Hellequin himself is still very much a mystery to those around him, and maybe even a little to himself. He is a cheshire of demon origin, a powerful illusionist that uses his blood and others' to fuel his power. A blood spectre if you will. Despite this he rarely acts outwardly malicious.
Rather he cavorts around, causing trouble and delighting in misdirection and being mischevious. Most who encounter him are unsure if he's a foe, but are fairly certain he isn't a friend. Hellequin always has and always will do as he pleases.
As such sometimes it tickles his fancy to create things, either with his power or by hand. Why he chooses to do this no one knows, but his creations, his art, is always interesting.
Despite not caring how others perceive him he does choose to hide his devil tail most of the time, creating the illusion of a normal feline tail. Perhaps he likes how it looks, and likes grooming it.
Also of note, he can seperate his head from his body, just like a Cheshire should. Whether this is real or illusion is anyone's guess.
On the name Hellequin - Hellequin was a an early form of the character archetype seen in theater, the Harlequin. The Harlequin is seen as a jester-character in modern day, but actually was witty and wily, and served as a prototype for modern day romantic heroes. The term Hellequin dates back to Early Medieval France and is derived from a term used in the French version of the Wild Hunt of Faerie.
Hellequin chooses to be called by this moniker since he's ancient and was probably alive around then, and also very much considers himself to be a "main character". Also the "Hell" in Hellequin tickles his fancy.

True Forme is pretty self explanatory.
Base Forme is the illusion created when he wishes to hide his tail, which belies his demonic nature.
Awakened Forme happens when Hellequin loses hold of himself, or uses too much power, he shifts into this Forme. His colors change and his voice gets higher, more feminine/androgynous.
He's fairly unstable in this Forme, and is more likely to give in to his malicious tendencies. Hellequin also has much greater access to his powers in this Forme.
Demon Forme occurs if Hellequin completely loses control and gives in fully to his tendencies (being in Awakened Forme is a prerequisite) he can shift into his True Demon Forme. He grows much larger and loses his feline features. There are traces of his usual mischevious personality, but he is far more brutal and sadistic. Few realize that Hellequin is a demon. Even fewer know his true demon name. If that name is uttered, there is a chance that Hellequin will snap and transform.
To get Hellequin to revert to this normal Formes takes either a massive expenditure of energy on his part (unlikely, his stores are fairly infinite) or a binding
