Overview

Khai is a prince of a fantasy-Egyptian kingdom. His family was highly devoted to all the gods of Egypt, and to honor their reverence, the gods conveyed a message through their prophet: a  great conflict would soon begin, and a son from this family would play the most vital role.

He's third son of the family, so the attention was mainly focused on his two older brothers who had many achievements and the peoples' hope that they would be the prophesied one. He is happy the focus is on them, though he secretly wants some recognition too, or any kind of praise that doesn't compare him to his siblings. He is reclusive, and has few relationships outside of his family (maybe to scholars in the kingdom?) For family, he is on good terms with the eldest and his parents, though he is especially close to the second son, Meiri.

On his birthday, it was revealed the hero of the prophecy was him, not his two brothers. Khai found himself dragged from the shadows  into the spotlight, facing   people who now watched him critically and  unhappily, wondering what  made  this third son better than his siblings.  He also faces jealousy  from  his brothers, being extremely upset they  were passed over for a  younger  brother that hasn't done any amazing  feats. Even Meiri, who Khai would call his best friend, has pulled away from him.

Ideas, personality

Maybe link to Kimon, a minor god of the Nile (gods send him to be of assistance). Though Kimon is not a very  good partner, as he's highly  mischievous and  notoriously difficult to  manage. Khai, lacking any  ability to command and being reverent of  Kimon's position as a god, isn't really able to control  the wild deity.

so not a military commander, but studious and has studied military (especially Meiri's actions in battle. The two talk military tactics often and plays games against each other, though of course Meiri has yet to lose a game.) Hasn't actually commanded or seen a battle firsthand.
reads a lot of everything. Maybe writes too or does artistic things like sculpture, painting, writing?
good at reading the mood and people's personalities and thoughts, after years of pure observation.
Very weak presence, you wouldn't notice him if he wasn't the prince. Actually, even as the prince few bother talking to him, as what can you gain politically from talking to a scholar? Especially when you can try to gain the favor of the friendly crown prince, or the kingdom's best commander.
Despite extensive reading and observation of people talking, he's bad at social situations, and in events would stay by the edges.
Relies on himself to get things done?
His goal would be to travel around and gather and compile information, especially medical/medicinal info, or map making

Really struggles with self confidence. He's been living in the shadow of two brothers for so long, and now he's thrust into the spotlight.

Feels like anything he can do, his brothers cna do better.

Definitely cried when Meiri visited him after the prophecy, maybe Meiri mentions this to Beon. "Yo know, Khai cried when I visited him. We both know he doesn't talk to many people, so he thought he lost both of us when we left that hall.

////Meiri's ambition

Meiri, along with his brothers, were born in fulfillment to a prophecy:  that one of them would end the long war with the neighboring nation.  This was the message he received since he could comprehend words, and  taking it to heart, he searched for ways to support his kingdom, before  finding a talent for military strategy and leadership. Now the youngest  and most successful general in Eliou, Meiri believes he is the one  chosen to end the war, and aims to crush the enemy, and conquer more  land for the nation.

However, things changed when the gods  blessed the youngest brother, a scholar and recluse, to be the one from  the prophecy. Meiri couldn't understand it; he had done more against the  neighbor than this youngest son, so why isn't he the one that will end  things? How was a scholar better than him, a commander and conqueror?  Meiri's goal remained: end the war through military force. But his  reasoning changed, sharpened: from demonstrating he is the best  candidate for the prophecy, to proving that the gods had chosen wrong.

Meiri - not arrogant but confident in his abilities. Gets along very well with Khai, but he did believe it was just him or Beon that had a chance at the prophecy, so when Khai was chosen he got upset. He was feeling a lot of things - jealousy, anger, confusion - but after thinking about it he sympathised with Khai, and then got over his jealousy and disappointment. Both very strategic (he's a stunning general after all), and emphatic. Generally pretty forgiving even to his enemies.

He's good at motivational speeches and encouragement. Not good at understanding finer nuances in a speech, and can be a bit awkward in conversations. Keeps track of external countries' army movements.

He's close with both Beon and Khai, and generally tells them everything. Tries to be supportive to both. He is generally closer to Khai.

After prophecy he still thinks the same of Khai, after some reflection. He became even more supportive, and really wants to see Khai succeed. Sometimes would defeat Khai from Beon if the crown prince is too prickly.

////Beon

Gives people close to him nicknames. Took the news harder, because as the first son his parents thought he was confirmed to be the one who'd fulfill the prophecy. He tried really hard to be good at talking, policy making, leading, negotiating. And he could see Meiri tried hard to be a general and lead them to victory. But what has Khai done, besides lock himself in the study to read and draw? So he was more upset than Meiri to see both his and Mei's hard work overlooked for a guy who hasn't contributed to the war at all.

Anything related to conversation he is good at. Whether that is extracting information subtly or having an argument. Keeps track of external countries' internal politics. Pretty good at observing people and knowing what to say. Negotiates with allies and secures supplies. Good memory, and has a very large network of people.

He does hold onto grudges, and can be quite harsh when he drops his charming 'act'.

Maybe struggles with being 'good enough'? Really thought the kingdom was riding on him, was trying to shoulder that, and feels like his life purpose was torn away when Khai was appointed. Thinks Khai is incompetent and can't bring the kingdom peace.

He respects Meiri, and really values him.

Before the war he was friendly with Khai. A little distant since he hoped his brother would use his studies somehow to help people, but knowing the guy is more introverted he let it go.

But after the prophecy, he grew a lot more distant. He isn't giving Khai the cold shoulder, but he generally disapproves of everything Khai does.

///Khai

maybe good at finance too? keeping the country afloat, the day to day activities.

////general

all brothers on good terms with each other before the appointment. Khai and Meiri are somewhat closer to each other, but the three of them interact fine and rarely fight. Before the war the three of them were always together, even if they studied different things. After the war they split into their roles a little bit (more and more as they got older), but still kept in contact.

Meiri and Beon are often away

Maybe Khai calls Beon brother, and Meiri as just Meiri?

Beon calls them Ka and Mei

Meiri would call them both by name.

- beon - 22, eldest - charming speaker, has short hair

- Meiri - 20, second prince - military genius, I can imagine him being the shortest

- Khai - 18, third prince - scholar and artisan

war began 10 years after Khai was born (so Khai was 10, 12, 14).

War has lasted 8 years so everyone is tired. (Maybe cut down length of war?)

----link to Favian's world? And he's link to Cedany, who is part of that 3 tribes idea thing
