When Elise discovered her magical powers, she quickly took advantage. All her life she'd been treated terribly since she could never fit in, but using her magic, she turned everything around. People seemed to be attracted to her and liked her for no apparent reason. Everyone was her friend, but they weren't really her friends. They were brainwashed by charms and potions. But Elise was happy. For a while... then she realized that these weren't real friends. She ran away to live vy herself and decided that she probably wasn't meant to have friends if it was this hard to make them. She made a humble cottage on a mountain side, and lived alone for 3 days. On the 4th day, there was a peck at her window and she met a crow. He became her 'familiar' and she could see through his eyes. But more importantly, he became her friend. She became more confident in herself, open, and kinder.
