They were having a conversation about her. She could hear them discuss her level of training and how many years she had been in the field. The polite thing would be for them to excuse themselves and have the conversation in private, but these men did not care about feelings, or being polite. What they cared about was whether or not she could get the job done.

The answer to that question was yes, but she was unable to communicate that through words, so for now she would just wait and listen to them converse.

Emile was a trained mage of the earth element. Her teacher had been part of the milta assassin group that trained mages to lurk in trees and use their element to make headshots. Of course some elements were better for such tactics than others. Mages weren’t usually trained to be an assassin they were more of a ranged offensive fighter, however a few mages broke off and decided to try something new. They weren’t many of them but there were enough to gain some traction.

Emile, joined when she was a teenager. She found out she was an earth mage fairly young. The news to her was not one of comfort. There were tales of how mages would lose control of their magic and would hurt the people around her. Her village had been kind, and told her not to worry, but how was she suppose to stay calm when her powers could just take over. With those thoughts she left her village in search of someone who could teach her to hone her magic so she wouldn’t harm anyone.

That is when she met her apprentice. Joining him, she lost her name and took a new one; Emile. She also lost her voice. She was told that she could have her tongue cut, or she could take a vow of silence but if she ever broke it, her tongue would not be the only thing that would be harmed. To ensure this a spell was cast, and if she ever broke it, her teacher would be responsible for enforcing the punishment.
