Through the same program in which Niko Terzic's family was enrolled, El's family were higher level scientists. They dealt with the same experimentation, the same pitfalls. His mother passed on during childbirth, unable to compensate for his unique form.

El was generally locked away, with the hope that his features would fade. Taking the isolation as a blessing, he used the opportunity to study the workings of the organization's experimentation. For his first several years, he focused, single-mindedly on engineering, biology, in an effort to make himself more acceptable to his father and the remainder of the organization. Rather than drawing himself closer, he alienated himself farther. In his early teen years, he was sent off to a more remote area of the countryside to live with other 'failures'.

This was where El met Niko, who became his best friend. Given his aspects, it is far more difficult for El to socialize than most, so he continues to devote himself to his work.
