vale (atlas) - 26 - he/him - cishet [one of the few i have]

• older brother of cliff and north
• working with his siblings to (secretly) lead a rebellion against the rulers of the kingdom (the kingdom is in the middle of a war and vale + his siblings believe the rulers are too focused on winning and power, not the citizens being harmed)
• changed his name along with his siblings from his birth name, atlas, to vale a few months after finding north. it was mostly a way to stay safer but all three of them (though never admitting it) saw it as a way to escape their pasts as well
• tends to be the leader of them all
• self-sacrificing. a lot. he has a lot of guilt for letting cliff get hurt so many times their whole life and blames himself for everything that’s ever happened to both of his siblings (im being hyperbolic but only a little)
• does everything with the best intentions in mind but his self-sacrificing mindset leads him to do dangerous stuff, and he doesn’t realize that his siblings would follow him to the ends of the earth even though he tells them not to
• he and cliff lost their home as kids when their town as burnt down after a few people there were accused of being traitors and it was used as an “example”; cliff was badly burned during this and while vale escaped without any lasting injuries, cliff’s burns are one of the things he beats himself up over hard
• born hard of hearing and has always needed hearing aids to be able to hear much of anything. for this reason he and his family are all pretty good with sign language and other forms of communication that don’t require hearing
• struggles with hearing and communicating tone as a result of being deaf and generally growing up being unable to hear and therefore unable to learn tone from others
