Growing up with both parents in Junction City's Mafia, Richter's path in life was set from the get-go.  He was raised in the Mafia, trained to one day replace his father as one of the higher ups in the gang.  And he worked very hard to meet this goal, making himself one of the most valuable hitmen at 20 and finally worming into a managerial position at 30.  Though at 32 he met the man of his dreams, and after marrying him and planning to start a family he decided to leave the Mafia.  Because of his dedication the boss agreed, but permanently scarred him as a warning not to cross them.  Afterwards he picked up a job as a builder before eventually retiring.

As you might expect from his upbringing, Richter is not an overly emotional man.  He tends to be rather reserved with his emotions, not expressing how he feels unless he feels he has to.  And while he cares deeply about his husband and son, he finds it hard to outwardly show his affection for them.  He's just a stoic, hard working family man at the end of the day...one with a checkered last, sure, but a family man all the same.
