Basil

Basil is a postgrad student studying English Literature and History of Art, they're a pretty introverted academic butch + NB lesbian who comes across as pretty aloof to their classmates, but really just doesn't know how to approach them. They've forever got their nose in a book and particularly loves Ursula K. Le Guin's books such as 'The Left Hand of Darkness' and the 'Earthsea' series. 

They end up doing most of their readings in coffee shops with stacks of notes and pens littered around them for hours at a time, they probably drink way too much coffee in general. They catch the train in from their little flat on the outskirts of the city. 

They also have a green thumb and have lots of plants in pots on their flats balcony, their particular favourite is their monstera which they named "Benjamin". They have slight mobility problems left over from abdominal surgery and sometimes use a cane as extra support. 

On the side Basil loves to do photography with their little polaroid camera. 

They desperately wish they could smoothly ask out other butch looking women on their course but is forever stuck agonising over how to do this in private. 

Get them talking about books they like and this is where you truly see them come out of their shell, it's a little endearing. 

They also love to play piano as well as clarinet, they practice both of these in their spare time and adore classical music. Their journal is kept pretty obsessively, they tend to write in it everyday, planning out whole days or weeks and writing down things that happen to them, as their memory isn't too great. They try to cycle to the station when they can but get easily nervous on their bike. Cannot bear to get rid of their 200 cosy jumpers.

They love to cook and wish they had other people to cook for, but often go all out on new recipes on their free days and evenings anyway.
