Imminent Accord, also known as the Mediator, is a Slugcat artificially created and imbued with Yellow Lizard DNA as part of a bioengineering project by Gaze at Ceaseless Light. They are taken care of and often given tasks to carry out by Second Silence, though they are free to roam the world as they please.

Appearance

Imminent Accord is an average-sized Slugcat with a dull purple coat of short, dense fur. They have blank white eyes and a white nose. Unlike most other Slugcats, they have a pair of long, pointed antennae in place of their ears and a second pair of smaller, pointed ears below them. They also have an abnormally long tail and larger than average claws. The tips of their tail and antennae are striped white and bioluminescent on command.

Design Notes

  • Their antennae and tail glow white, shiver, and emit a particle effect when they are communicating with other creatures.
  • They have particularly prominent claws on their hands and feet, a trait inherited from their Yellow Lizard DNA.
  • They bear the Mark of Communication, which is white for them. Additionally, their Mark has an upgrade that allows them to receive messages from Overseers, which is indicated by four lines surrounding the sides of the Mark (the same as in the Pearl Lexicon mod). The Mark glows softly in dim light and disappears while they are moving.

Personality

Imminent Accord is a measured and intelligent individual who knows what they are doing and consistently does it well. They are good at keeping themself composed under pressure and quick to react—traits that lend them well in the harsh environments they traverse and the particularly risky situations they often find themself in due to their obligations as Second Silence's assistant. They generally prefer solitude over the company of others, as since they believe they are competent enough on their own, they only feel that the presence of others holds them back, and they are easily annoyed. They do not cooperate with others well and often end up doing things their own way out of frustration even when it is costly. Despite this, they are quite good at navigating communication with aggressive or otherwise difficult creatures when necessary and are very good at logical reasoning and debate. They are generally pacifistic in nature and will always attempt to diffuse conflict without violence until it is absolutely necessary.

History

Not long after Gaze at Ceaseless Light's befriending of Six Shards of Glass and Second Silence's following enamoration with them, Gaze began researching bioengineering for the purpose of creating a similar companion with practical use in her interests for Silence as a gift. Using DNA from Six Shards of Glass, a Yellow Lizard, and several other subjects, they eventually managed to produce Imminent Accord, a mostly-Slugcat creature with the rudimentary telepathic communication abilities of a Yellow Lizard, extended to allow for transmission of signals to any creatures, rather than only those also possessing antennae. The dexterity of their Slugcat base allows them to get around and avoid danger much more easily than a Lizard could. This enables them to travel much farther much faster, which is particularly useful for the tasks they are designed to carry out.

Currently, they reside within Second Silence's can and are well-provided for by her, though they are free to come and go at their own leisure. When they are willing, Silence tasks them with communicating and mediating with the local wildlife in order to provide her with the opportunity to study and document them more closely. The particularly skittish or aggressive creatures are mostly subject to this, which Imminent Accord is often able to placate using bribes or reasoning. Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies is one such creature they have managed to come to neutral terms with by offering them food in exchange for examination by Silence and, later, rides across the sky.

Abilities

Natural Abilities

  • Interspecies Telepathic Communication: Imminent Accord possesses a modified version of the ability Yellow Lizards have that allows them to communicate telepathically with their pack members. By vibrating their antennae and tail, they can send signals to any creatures near them containing rudimentary information such as location, emotion, simple visuals, and general ideas. Coherent speech is not possible, but with enough creativity, this ability can be used to hold simple conversation and negotiation. Unlike Yellow Lizards, they are not limited to communication with creatures with this ability in common and can send understandable signals to most any species they encounter, though they must rely on other methods of receiving information from those without. When this ability is in use, the white stripes on their antennae and tail glow softly and emit a particle effect.
  • Bioluminescence: The white stripes on their antennae and tail are bioluminescent. This bioluminescence is triggered involuntarily when they are using their telepathic communication abilities but may also be controlled consciously by them when focused, which is particularly useful for navigation in dark areas.

Relationships

Second Silence

Second Silence is Imminent Accord's caretaker and companion. She has raised them since they were a young pup and is the most significant figure in their life. Although Accord is somewhat akin to a pet in relation to Second Silence, the two are very close and understand each other incredibly well. They work cooperatively together although Accord is mostly self-sufficient, and they stay not out of obligation but rather their own free will. They enjoy her company while resting and are very curious about her affairs; they love being read the contents of any pearls they find and listening to Silence's findings on the wildlife she studies.

Gaze at Ceaseless Light

Imminent Accord gets along with Gaze at Ceaseless Light, another Iterator in Second Silence's local group and their creator, quite well, though they do not see each other very frequently. Accord sometimes stops by their can on their way elsewhere for a more luxurious break and restock on anything they might need. Every time they meet, Gaze takes a moment to start a video call with Silence, who is always delighted to see her Slugcat companion safe with her friend.

Other Iterators

Eighty Blank Pages, Howl in Broad Daylight, and Song of Joyous Sparrow are three other Iterators that Imminent Accord is familiar with by way of their friendship with Second Silence. Though they see them infrequently, they get along well with each of them and generally enjoy their company.

Six Shards of Glass

Six Shards of Glass is one of Imminent Accord's few Slugcat friends and the primary contributor of the DNA used to create them. They have a vaguely parent-child-like relationship, as Glass helped raise them when they were very young, though they aren't often seen together due to distance. They get along relatively well but don't tend to stick around each other for long due to their similar solitary natures.

Eight Prisms, Gleaming

Eight Prisms, Gleaming is another bioengineered Slugcat-Lizard hybrid created by Gaze at Ceaseless Light, this time as a gift for Eighty Blank Pages. Though most of Prisms' time is spent at Pages' can, Imminent Accord is on very good terms with them. They have an older-and-younger-sibling-like relationship, wherein Accord takes on the role of older sibling. Accord has spent much time teaching them how to hunt, travel, communicate with other creatures, and otherwise helped raise them, and the two are very close and visit each other frequently.

Eighty Blank Pages' Other Slugcats

Pale Swirl, Crying Enigma, Sky's Brightest Clouds, and Startling Cry at Dusk are three other Slugcats Imminent Accord is well acquainted with due to their frequent presence at Eighty Blank Pages' can. Accord and Enigma get along well due to their similar laidback dispositions and enjoy each other's company, while Accord finds Sky to be endearing and funny. Accord is also on generally good terms with Dusk, though they are very unalike each other and spend little time together. Accord is, however, thoroughly entertained by their interactions with Six Shards of Glass.

Ringing of Bells

Ringing of Bells is a Slugcat Imminent Accord encountered once along their travels. Because they were quite lost and in need of help, Accord offered to help see them to their destination, as they were heading in the same direction. Despite Accord's preference for traveling alone, they got along very well. Although they have since parted ways, they still sometimes come across each other while wandering and tag along with each other for momentary company.

Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies

Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies, the King Vulture, is one of many creatures Imminent Accord has been successful in communicating and making peace with. It was only after Skies had, on multiple occasions, attempted to make prey of Accord that they were able to signal to them a bribe of food in exchange for their cooperation and achieve neutrality. Since then, their relationship has improved, and the two are on surprisingly good terms for a predator and an individual of one of their prey species. Much to their convenience, Accord has been able to negotiate with them to receive rides through the sky to other, further locations in exchange for food. Because Skies is aware of the extent to which Accord is able to help them, they will mostly listen to their commands. They will begrudgingly leave other prey items such as Six Shards of Glass and Six Shrouded Moons alone if asked and tolerate meddling from the Iterators for sake of not losing their access to easy food through Accord. They have since made their nest within the city atop Second Silence's can and are most often seen there or, sometimes, following Accord at a distance.

Twenty-Seven Stars

Twenty-Seven Stars is a young Vulture who Imminent Accord has only met quite recently. They often see them while interacting with Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies, since they are Stars' caretaker. Because Stars has been exposed to Accord from a young age, and was introduced to them by Skies, Stars is well aware that Accord is a friend, not prey, and the two get along very well.

Six Shrouded Moons

Six Shrouded Moons is another creature Imminent Accord has been able to befriend on behalf of Second Silence. They were tasked with seeking out this individual in particular after Second Silence had been shown images of them taken by her Overseers and became interested in studying them for their hybrid nature, which she had not seen before. Unlike their relationship with Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies, who only associates with them out of convenience, Accord is on genuinely good terms with Moons, who is excited to see them whenever they visit. Accord is frequently in charge of looking after them whenever they are let out of Silence's can and they work relatively well together as a team.

Swirly

For the most part, Imminent Accord and Swirly, the Red Lizard, get along well. Due to Swirly's abnormally friendly disposition and Accord's ability to transmit telepathic messages, it was not difficult for them to become friendly with one another and comfortable in each other's company. Swirly is well aware of the need to be cautious around Accord due to their size and power and takes care to not make them or any of the other Slugcats they know uncomfortable in their presence.

Interlude's Tribe

Due to their residence in the space between Second Silence and Gaze at Ceaseless Light's cans, which Accord travels through most frequently, Imminent Accord is very familiar with the members of Interlude in Evergreens' tribe of Scavengers. They are on mostly good terms and often trade resources whenever they cross paths, though issues arise whenever Accord is traveling with anyone else, especially Six Shard of Glass, Fifteen Needles, Endless Skies, or Six Shrouded Moons, who have all had unpleasant run-ins with the tribe in the past. Of the tribe's members, Accord is on best terms with Restless Pines, to whom they often give any pearls they've already had read by Silence. Silence herself gets a kick out of the fact that they often return with the same pearls Accord has brought to her in the past.
