Haruka

Haruka is a kind and well-mannered girl. She is bright and clever, and seems to have consistently good ideas, despite rarely sharing them openly. She has a prim and proper attitude, as she was raised to be polite and lady-like to those she meets. She is humble in her skills and aspirations, and prefers gratitude over praise. However, she is truly anything but lady-like when around her close friends. She often adopts a ‘go with the flow’ attitude and enjoys letting loose, and having as much unbridled fun as she possibly can. She can be silly and vulgar like her friends, which can shock people who aren’t familiar with that side of her. While not openly hostile, she is not afraid to talk down those who harbor bad intentions towards who she cares about. Despite this, she struggles with confrontation and even her own feelings from time to time.

Haruka was born and raised in the city of Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Her parents, Takumi and Fuyasu Manami, had moved from Nagasaki to the big city for work opportunities. From a young age, she couldn’t use her tendrils to walk around very well, which prompted her parents to give her wheelchairs to use. This caused some distance between herself and those she shared her kindergarten with, but with the help of one sparkly boy, she found herself enjoying her time more and more.

Throughout elementary and middle school, her and her starry friend gained a tight circle of friends, but also started dealing with more school prejudice. Bullies and those not fond of them would cause problems for them to deal with, which was what instilled in Haruka her dislike for confrontation, as it almost always led to a fight. But she still felt happy and safe around the people she considered her friends.Near the end of middle school, her parents notified her that they would be moving back to Nagasaki, as their jobs had redirected staff to that area. This meant she wouldn’t be able to join her friends who wanted to go to UA highschool. She was incredibly disappointed at the fact, but there was nothing she could do. She had to say her farewells to Osaka and her friends from there.

Haruka moved back to Nagasaki, and while enjoying the proximity to the ocean, was starting anew at Asanami Highschool. It was an all girls high school near to the sea, and focused on training its students in heroism based around water. While she doesn’t struggle socialising with the girls in her class, and places high within it, she finds connecting with them on a deeper level much harder.
