About

Born in the Taichta, Gideon has lived underground for most of his life. He runs a library in the mountain caves of the village called Cidamus, that is augmented with books from his trips to other dimensions - so long as he's sure that they make sense in his universe. He's a quiet man, preferring the company of a good book to most people, though this does exclude his close friends. Not one to turn away a stranger, however, all those who come to the library looking for guidance will recieve it.
When not alone, he's often found aboveground in the house of Railem, or in his own rooms with his boyfriend, Dominik.

Appearance

Despite being tall, a life of work in the library tends to leave one quite thin and pale, though not weak- books get pretty heavy. The air in the caves is cold, even with all of the torches used for lighting, leading many to keep long hair. Gideon is no exception to this, with fine brown hair going down to the middle of his back. Typically, he wears linen or wool long-sleeved shirts, with wool or leather breeches and leather boots. For the few occasions that he ventures aboveground, he keeps some shorter linen clothes, that are loose and airy.

Backstory

The city of Lumaris, buried deep in the ground at the center of the Taichta, hides more than just a magic spring. The royalty there are a closeted bunch, concerned more with the strength of their power and patriarchy than they are with running any city beyond the limits of their own. Many are raised among these families, believeing that the life they know is the only one for them, some enjoying it and some simply accepting it. One young girl, however, didn't find either of those options very attractive. She grew up as the daughter of a lesser noble house, destined to stay uneducated through life as she was married to the son of a more powerful family and made to devote herself to nothing more than raising children. This girl hated her destiny, throughout her life, and a mere few nights before she was supposed to get married, decided to sneak away. Not many were successful in doing this, but she was particularly cunning and before the night was out, she had left the city.

Once alone in a new village, a place called Cidamus, along the edge of the country she knew, she settled. It did not take her long to find a man that she truly loved, who truly loved her back. She worked hard as a seamstress and teacher, while her husband took up a position in the city guard. For several years, they lived and loved, eventually having two children. Their first they named Gideon, their second was Casey. These two boys were the lights of their lives, whom they loved more than anyone else (save perhaps each other). All was well for several years more, until one night when an entrance to the city came under attack from a large bear that had come across some shadow magic. It managed to kill a few of the guards, including Gideon's father, before it was subdued and put down. His mother managed to keep the three remaining family members afloat after that, though with some hardship, until not long after Gideon turned fifteen. She had been working herself to the bone and when she got sick, her body wasn't able to fight it off, not with how exhausted she was. The two brothers buried her on Casey's thirteenth birthday, leaving him to sink into depression.

Once his mother was gone and had left him all she owned, it was up to him to provide for himself and Casey. He took a job at the local library, finding the work there interesting and the atmosphere calming. Despite his best efforts, as they grew older, he and Casey also grew apart, leading his brother to move out not long after he turned eighteen. {{WIP}}
